There is a PPC emulator in early developement for x86 called SheepShaver.

It works in a similar way to Basilisk JIT.

At the www.emaculation.com site there are screenshots of x86 linux with Sheepshaver running MacOS 8.6.

There is no mmu emulation so virtual memory and OSX are'nt supported.

I hav'nt tried it yet but I'm pretty sure these instructions are ok.

If anyone wants to try the PPC emu you need

Linux on x86

x86 Processor in the Ghz range.

A 4MB rom from one of the mac models listed in

http://www.graphixmad.plus.com/mac_troubleshooter/macs+systems.html

In the source code I think there is a utility that can extract 4MB roms from macs.

Compiling a linux app from source basic knowhow.

Latest Basilisk JIT source code for linux.

Latest Sheepshaver source code for linux available from links at www.emaculation.com

If Sheepshaver is running on a Mac running Beos it uses the ppc natively sort of like MacOnLinux.

If Sheepshaver is running on x86 then it uses the 604 PPC core emulation.

The PPC core emulation is the hardest part of the whole shebang to do.

I like the sound of it!

It was just the other day that my brother asked me if I would be able to make MacOS 9.1 work on his PC.

If this'll work on Mandrake Linux, and i can use the ROM from my 7300, or someone can grab me a 7300 rom (because I probably can't get to the 7300 with a monitor on my own) I would be happy to test it out

Impressive! I hope that one day I can run OS X on my Dell...even if i cant' now! Ah well, now that i think of it, if i had a choice, i'd much rather use OS 9 than Windohze XP as my main OS.

Linux: VMware for Windows, Basilisk/SheepShaver for MacOS. It'll work out just great

(To add to the effect, you could probably make the linux box, a unix box, a *Darwin* box, ))
