I'm looking for a PPC upgrade card for my LC580. I need one for the PDS slot as I have no other expansion slots on this machine. Apple made such a card at one point in time, but I can't locate one, and have checked eBay. Does anyone here know a source for such an upgrade, new or used at a reasonable price?

I have seen one on ebay for the LC580.

At the moment ebay has a daystar powerpc 601 for the quadra 700 etc which is not compatible.

There's some good info at

Find a motherboard from a PM 5200 series, or a 6300 even. Slides right in to the 580.

somewhere i read that you can get a mobo from a 5400 or 5500 and throw it in a 580 or a 630, with some kind of voltage thing in order to use the PCI slot. i've got a 5500 board for my 630 and i'm going to do it.. anyone know what kind of adapter i need?

The PCI bus needs 3.3v so you need a regulated 3.3v supply taken from your power supply if you want to use a PCI logic board.

Details are on some color classic upgrade sites.

Power Supply pinouts for a lot of Mac Models (including PCI macs) are over at Applefritter
in the Hacks section and then in the Subject "Additions to FAQ" and then the last item by ccowner.
