Greetings all,I recently inherited an office from someone who had worked at her job for many years, and I had to clean it out. In the midst of running through disks, I believe I have found a beta version of MacOS 7.5. The disks I have are labeled as generic 7.5 startup disks. However, on startup they say "Capone" and the "About this Macintosh" returns 7.5b5c4. If there's any interest I can make images of these disks and put them up for download somewhere. http://www.wtsp.org |

hmmm, that reminds me.... a question I've been meaning to ask.... There was the jump from System 7.1 to 7.5 - was there a System 7.2, 7.3 or 7.4?? What about 7.7?- - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

I think complete number changes mean a major revision in the software, a .5 means modest changes or additions, .1 probably a few small changes for specific machines, and .01's mean bug fixes. This changes slight for OSX because they like to keep the OSX name (x meaning 10) so they do .1 for major revisions and .01 for small changes and bugfixes. No idea what they will do for the revision after OSX 9.99.

quote: What about 7.7?
That turned into OS 8 remember? and lets see… 7.5.2 was the first for PPCs, 7.5.3 was a much needed load of bug fixes [from what I remember, and I've read], 7.6 was a pretty big upgrade [nearly the modern Mac OS: 9] and 8.1 added HFS… Oh wait… am I going off topic? oh well… quote: No idea what they will do for the revision after OSX 9.99.
Ah, but they wont even get there [since that would be OS 10.9.9.9, and there are only two periods] but after that… some people belive they will start using the windoz system… "Mac OS 2010" or what ever…If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac! after "Mac OS X - 10.9.x" .... then obviously they will move on to "Mac OS XI - 11.0.x" ... or more likly they will stick with the "Mac OS X" bit and just call it "Mac OS X - 11.0" probably .... Orcadian MLA Division 68ks Liberated: 2 |

Sorry about the delay on this - I've had it imaged for a while but just forgot! You can download it at http://occs.cs.oberlin.edu/~hbent/75beta.zip, which decompresses to a DiskCopy 4.2 image of the disk. This is a pretty sparse system, but then again you can't expect much from a single 3.5" floppy.

I've been playing around with mac emulation today, and am halfheartedly wondering if it would work better than: German system 7.0.1 iMac OS 8.1..I'll keep at it though Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |
