I found mention of the wider DAV connector we've talked about on some of the Video System Cards for the 580/6XX/6XXX/5XXX series. They should work with expansion cards in some of the PowerMacs (NuBus & PCI) and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about such cards? There is also supposed to be a similar DAV slot/connector on the mobos of some of the PowerMacs.
It seems that the pins on the slot/connector give access to direct unscaled YUV Video and recording quality stereo sound. These signals also seem to be available on the smaller DVA connectors for MPEG Media cards that also work with the older cards for the 040 machines. I'm hoping there's some slim chance that this translates into the possibility of TRUE 640 x 480 display as opposed to pixel doubled 320 x 240 on my 630 . . . but I'm not holding my breath.

The only card I know of that used the DAV was the SpigotproAV on the 840av, this card only works with 660/840av models and does 640x480 30fps. almost all the other video capture cards didnt use the imputs on the mac for anything (well maybe audio but not video)

I do know that when the Nubus machines came out and used the large DAV ports, Apple's intention was to have it as a new standard to use one Port for A/V thus making new inroads in terms of Media use. The DAV port could handle full motion Video and Stereo Audio plus Digital Video for the system. However, somewhere down the line Apple ditched the idea and stuck to normal Industry Stabdard Ports.
In effect, the DAV was like a FireWire DV Bridge of the old Media World...there do exist older DAV connectors that allow you to access Audio and other features from the one port, but they are few and far between. (Sources say ADB, Audio, Video and System Video were on this one device)
Now, I'm assuming your talking about the large HDI-45 DAV connector on the system boards of the 6100's etc.
