Recently, at Wal-mart, when looking for spray paint for my beige G3, I saw this Krylon fusion stuff. It says that no sanding is required, and it fuses with the plastic. I thought I'd give it a try, and bought a can. I must say, this stuff is pretty awseome. It looks like this thing (my G3) came out of the factory black. No pictures, yet, I have a very small amount of touching up to do. I recomend using the fusion spray paint on any plastic surface on a mac case, whether 68k or powerpc. Alo, blue LED's match black paint really well.

If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

I might paint my 8500 since its my only yellowing mac. I would like to see some pics on how yours turned out first. I would tape apart the cdrom and paint that too.

Since the 8600 has a case nearly identical to the beige G3 minitower, it should work great on there. I don't recomend using it on metal, so only the bezel on the 8500 should be painted with it. I might get some pictures up on my website, this evening, but it needs a bit of a touch up, and since I've been using the machine... I have the thing overclocked from 266 to 300, and Jaguar on it. Runs like a champ!

Humm when I tried overclocking my G3 DT/233 to 266 it would show me the gray screen and the mouse would be frozen… [I tried zapping the PRAM and hitting the CUDA switch, but neither helped untill I un-overclocked it]

Ok, I have a picture of the painted G3. keep in mind that the lighting is bad, and I had to use a flash... It looks much better in person, it does not do this machine justice. better picture coming soon.

I hope that works...

btw, my web alias is little_goblinman, everywhere (even ebay), except my new e-mail, which is methinks@yhti.net if you see a little_goblinman anywhere, it's probably me, unless someone else beat me to it... in which case I want their (virtual) head on a stick. sorry 'bought the rant, I'm just having fun...

You can paint the rest of the case you know. The paint will stick just fine. I have everything properly covered and primed (cleaned or sanded as need be) and I will be doing every single surface area of the 8600.

Nice! ^_^

The blue LED, and the Apple logo really add to the coolness ^_^
[Kinda reminds me of NeXT hardware, which I think is pretty coo looking ]

and like BoJ said, you really should do the rest of the case

This is still a work in progress, I'm planning on painting the CD-ROM, soon. I'm trying to figure out a way to print out some decal(like on model airplanes) letters, for the keyboard. I'm thinking I'll paint the entire thing, including keys, then put new letters on (maybe red)... I think that would be cool... I still have to paint the mouse. I *might* paint the monitor, a multiscan 14av, or I may just get one that is already black. If it reminds you of NeXT hardware, then my goal is met, as I was trying for that This was inspired partly by the "stealth G3" on apple fritter, and also by the NeXT station I have. that thing is just so cool.

I also have a 8600 that I have been wanting to paint black. I suck at using spray paint so I want to get it professionally. I have been hoping to find an auto body guy that need to have some computer work done. That way I could just pay for the paint and we can trade out labor. I figure that with as much plastic that is on cars now days they should be pretty good at painting it.

I'm thinking of selling the Black G3, when I finish it, so if anyone is interested, just send an E-mail. I'll have a better picture up, soon.
