A fool and their money are soon parted. I dont think I would want to wear the remains of a loved one around my neck or in a ring etc. Cremation is the best thing to do along with scattering the ashes in the back yard. People are remembered from the memories they leave, not from physical objects.

you mean, the physical objects that they are *turned into* ;)My grandpa has grandma's ashes in a nice little box in display on a shelf above a couch in the living room. That's a good enough place for them IMHO, he also wants to have his own ashes, and hers combined in one larger box. and my mom will probably keep that. my grandma was rolling round in the back of my aunt's minivan for a year, and my grandma would've thought that it was the funniest thing ever :) She got to go camping with the family, and all that good stuff ;)now she's scattered in the rose garden in stanley park, finally :) CCC Commander Promotion: 19 Mar 2003 13:06:30 68k Macs Rescued: 2 Pluses, a 512KE, a Classic II, a Q650, a Q660AV, an SE/30, and a MacII Contraband rescued: Power Computing PowerBase 200, a PM 8600/300, and a PM8500/180 Apple //s rescued: Apple //e |

Many people would not want a loved one stuffed and standing next to the fireplace, nor their head mounted on a plaque on the wall, but its great to incinerate them and put them in an urn. Burrying people in a decent area of town after they are chemically embalmed (hazardous waste) has got to end sooner or later, we are running out of space and the world population is getting larger all the time.

Interesting. I've often wondered if you could fuse the ashes of a person into a glass brick and pour the glass into a mold with the deceased's name embossed on it. You could even offer a range of tasteful shapes and colors.G4From128k by Day: Mild-Mannered Engineer and Trapeze(tm) Artist by Night: Colonel of Truth, Justice, and the Macintosh Way Reserve Officer in 68kMLA Cantankerous Coot Contingent

While it's possible, it seems to be more kind just to leave them be, in their box, under the ground, or in the forest.Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Actually, that's really bad, environmentally speaking. Abetter method, developed in Sweden, is to freeze-dry the body then pulverize it. ,xtG .tsooJ -- who | grep -i blonde | date cd ~; unzip; touch; strip; finger mount; gasp; yes; uptime; umount sleep |

All of this reminds me of Monty Pyhton's Undertaker sketch. See: http://www.talpak.org/alakulat/python/jelenetek/under.htmlWhen you really think about, burying is just as bizarre as burning. And both have their environmental issues. Hmmm.... freeze drying and pulverizing would be a good first step to making Soma (see the movie, Soylent Green). I should think that cremation and scattering would add some nutrients to the ground, well-needed in several places, let me say...Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |
