Recently got a Quadra 630 off of eBay for $1 with maxed out RAM 36MB and the Apple Macintosh TV/Video System.I've installed OS 8.1 on it and when I launch the Apple Video Player software the TV Tuner card doesn't seem to work. I can however get the video input via RCA to work just fine. QUESTION: Is there a separate extension for the TV TUNER CARD? I've GOOGLED like crazy and cannot find out any information. Someone please help! Thanks in advance! |

Welcome to the MLA!I've got one 630 that won't address the tuner under 7.5.x myself. It may be a hardware problem, I think mine is. The software should be part of your 8.1 install, if nothing else, you should be able to download the 8.1 patch and reinstall if you don't have the CD. BTW: I deleted your double posting in the peripherals forum before anybody can tell you that we don't do that here. jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Maybe you could check the connections that the card has to the computer, and check on what video formats your'e set to recieve (NTSC vs. PAL vs. someotherthing)Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Did you check to make sure you have two modules for the TV/Video system? The first module contains A/V stuff including the RCA connector, which you have because you can use the video input. The second module contains the tuner and the antenna connector. Without it, you can't use the TV. |

Nice catch on that one, pbc! It does sound like he may only have the Video System without the optional TV Tuner.Look for the Ports & Pinouts pdf over on gamba2 (google it or click on the period in my sig to find the link for gamba) and get the user & service manuals for the 630 over there too while you're at it. That'll clear up the position of the second connector for the Tuner, ag. jt . Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF Edited by - Trash80toG-4 on 18 Nov 2003 14:21:23

I have read the apple video player stops being supported past os 9.1. . .but I guess thats not our issue. I would double check that all your connectors are . . .uhm. . .connected snugly. damn, what else could it be? I just transfered my tv/video from a Performa 630 to a Quadra 630 without any issues. I know AV stuff is definately supported in 8.1, but I am not positive about the TV tuner card. . .something just loose support when you go up in OS. The only time I have had any issues with these AV cards is when upgrading to a newer os. So for the TV tuner stuff, I stick with 7.5.5. Can anyone confirm if both the TV tuner is supported under that OS? I know the video (rca) stuff is. _____________________________________________ I have a problem with vintage electronics. . .I am working on it. yeah, you can't easily watch tv without the tv card, and IIRC, the tv plugs directly into the mobo, but you still need the video system card in order to use it. (*it may not have been exactly that, but i remember that for the tv/fm, you need the video to use one of them, so I'm guessing that you need the video for the tv part)Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |
