I know where Bork came from!!!

Bork was the name of a politician!!!

Apparently there was a politician, and he voted down a bill, and in that day in history, 'borked" became a verb in the dictionary!!!!

THAT'S AMAZING!!!

So, it wasn't me, it wasn't JT (unless JT's last name is bork ) that popularized it and "bork" is an actual verb!

Interesting...where'd you get that from?

Btw, if it was jt, then we would be referring to him as jb.

Actually, what if T is his middle name? ;)

JTB

It was on the news this morning, sadly, Dad saw it while I was sleeping, I wouldn't even have seen it otherwise

Now here's something interesting!

Robert Bork, former US Supreme Court judge, is currently appealing the Justice department cave-in on Microsoft's antitrust case. Get the full story here... http://news.com.com/2100-1014_3-5101981.html?tag=nefd_top

So I guess this is a case where being "Borked" could actually be a good thing!

Go Bork!

Cheers!

Since the jargonfile lists "borken" as:

quote:

borken: adj. (also borked) Common deliberate typo for broken.

http://www.catb.org/esr/jargon/html/B/borken.html

. . . the jargonfile revision-history features a specific reference . . .

quote:

The Usenet culture has one tripling convention unrelated to this; the names of `joke' topic groups often have a tripled last element. The first and paradigmatic example was alt.swedish.chef.bork.bork.bork (a "Muppet Show" reference); other infamous examples have included:

http://www.eps.mcgill.ca/jargon/jargon.html

. . . the "Muppet Show" ran from 1976 ->1980, the Swedish Chef appeared in the third episode . . .

http://vr.ncsa.uiuc.edu/BS/Muppets/episode_guide_ms.html

. . . Judge Bork was "Borked" in 1987 during the Reagan Administration . . .

http://www.siu.edu/worda/persp/sp99/bork.html

ergo, bork/borked/borken almost certainly predates D.C.'s hijacking of the term.

p.s. if anyone owns a copy or is heading to the library, this edition probably contains the definitive answer to the "bork" question.

quote:

. . . a book published in 1983 as "The Hacker's Dictionary" (Harper & Row CN 1082,
ISBN 0-06-091082-8) . . .
