This is an informative post not meant for replies or discussion! I have placed this here so users can quickly grab information about forum downtime and why it occurs. Please don't post here, this is the equivalent to a sticky note so users don't have to post and ask about this issue. Mentioned herein are explanations and information on what can be done.

If you have been here for a while or are new, you may have noticed that the forums sometimes are down and the only message is that there is a "Microsoft JET Error".

Want to know why these errors happen?

We have over 600 members who browse and post on a regular basis. Microsoft Access does not support 600 users at once. It's stated limit is 255 users, although Microsoft admits that 30 concurrent users is often the maximum Access can handle. When too many users connect, the database can no longer accomodate the extra load and will display that error message.

How many users can Jet support?

"Theoretically, Microsoft Jet can support 255 simultaneous connections to one database. The practical limit to the number of users Jet can handle in multiuser applications depends on many factors. Applications whose primary task is to perform queries can handle more users than applications whose primary task is to update data. The network and file server also play an important role in calculating this limit. In a properly configured network setting, Jet can easily support 25-50 users in a transaction-orientated environment. Some multiuser applications function well with 80 users."

The board Administrators are well aware of this issue, so it is not required that you report it to them. It may be irritating but this forum is hosted for free so there is no reason to complain.

Also, please don't post to the forums offering hosting or other services. If you wish to offer something, ask ~Coxy, who is the Administrator directly via E-mail.

Have a nice day!
