Since I am very cheap, I use 2 AA batteries soldered in series. My 6100 has this setup, and it has lasted a couple years now, with all settings retained and it boots without the "switch flip" trick. Thats cheap, I think 2 batteries are $9 on ebay or a used box of 10 for more (used batters dont thrill me since the charge drops like a rock at end of life)

They're usually around the $15 mark over here (and even more for the square 4.5v ones!)- - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

It's ok to solder them, if you have a good flux that allows the solder to flow before overheating (and exploding) the battery. I threw a page together that shows how this cheap pram battery thing works... http://68k.dyndns.org/batterypics/pram.html Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org

I have a few battery holders from radioshack that are already wired and have leads. I will be using one on an old 486 to replace its battery. Will probably just order 2 new prmas from ebay tonight.

cyberguys has the round 1/2AA ones for $5.29. But the s/h will break the deal unless you get a few of them, or get one as part of a larger order.Matt No rank Current king of my 68k realm: - "PowerMystic" Color Classic, custom silver case, 66MHz PPC601 card, full '040, 128/2G/enet, OS 8.1 |

I got 4 ordered for $17.79 shipped with this years date code (new) from ebay. I think I should be set for a few years now. If the 8500 is like my 840av I should be able to change the battery out without taking the motherboard out.

The 8500 keeps the time now, I'm happy.
