Can I use a Asante EN/SC-10T Ethernet with my PB 170. I have the SCSI adapter, I'm just curious if it be worth buying one. I think I may be able to get one fairly cheap.

PB 170
System 7.5.5
8mb Ram
110mb HD

Thanks,

It should work...

You can always try it and report back here! A writeup for the website would be cool, too. EN/SC interfaces are quite cool, but not much is said about them.

Again, it should work. These devices were targeted at two markets: portables and the compact Macs. If the one you are looking at is relatively recent, then it is almost certainly for a PowerBook. (Mine is, though I use it on an SE/30.)

AFAIK, they only work under Mac OS -- and I wanted it for NetBSD.

I just got one running on my PB170 - it can talk to my iBook at 10mb/s. W00t! The version of the driver at the Mac Driver Museum didn't seem to work (with my system 7.1), and their link to this version is broken, but driverguide.com (for which you have to register) has it. Here's the file name:

main::5_6_1_INSTALLER.HQX

and the page to download it from:

http://www.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads2/9002.html

You may need to fiddle a bit, given that I had passwords & stuff in my keychain.

Cheers

My 128k broke, my 512k had beer poured in the top of it, and my 512ke blew up. I'm resorting to an SE/30.Go to Top of Page

All flavors of Asante EN/SC adapters (Micro, Mini, and the big metal one) works well on 68k Macs, not just PowerBooks. If you can get one cheap, it's worth it - beats LocalTalk in speed, and you can use MacTCP and access the Internet, if your Ethernet network is so configured.
