So I am down at Comp. Repair on campus trrying to get a beat old pc laptop to run. At the same time a lady comes in to pick up two 8500's. One of them is not working. She says she does not need it and that they would most likely toss it out, and I say, "well, hey, don't toss it! I'll take it off your hands." The guy fixing it did not know much about macs, but said the logic board was messed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, plus I would need a new hard drive. I still accepted the adoption. We'll see what happens when we get home, but it has a cd-rom, and a zip drive. Even if it doesn't work, there are parts in there that could be salvaged. . .how much is an 8500 logic board? The guy repairing is told me it was not worth it. . .like $400. I just found some on ebay for $10-$20. Not bad!

Sounds like a pretty good find. Whatever you do, check the PRAM battery and reset the CUDA. If its fixable, that'll fix it.

update::
Got some VRAM in the mail. it was the last part before I could begin to bring back the 8500. Push the button, and I hear chimes of love. So, for a grand total of 12.99USD I have a nice 8500. I hooked it up to a pretty worthless Hi-8 camera via RCA to check out some video. So happy with it. . .

Niice, the AV powermacs are ubercool. With some work, you'll be able to run X.1 on it, or with OS 7/8/9 you'll have a niice system for video capture and stuff
