Yeah, baby, yeah!

Score for today: one Macintosh IIfx, 20 MB RAM (hurrah!), 500 MB HD (booh!). Once listed for well over $10,000, now in my collection for €10.

I'll be installing A/UX 3.1.1 on it, and use it to serve a site dedicated to A/UX.

Got to love the IIfx, too bad memory for it is so expensive.

From what I hear, only 20mb of memory will be a shortcoming (for A/UX) but the freakish fast-ness of the IIFX should make up for that?

I know that the IIsi with 33mb of RAM runs it well

Good luck with that site, and if you need any help with it, or would like to donate any content to the MLAgazine, you know who to talk to

I remember being in complete awe of the $15,000 CDN price tag on the fx when it first came out. Never thought I would own one. Amazing what 10 years can do to the price :)

I was able to grab a nice IIfx with 32(!) MB of RAM and the mounting hardware for 2 hard drives and 2 floppy drives for $15 (no drives). I think I was more excited about buying that computer than I was about buying my first G3. And it has never disappointed.

How's this for fun? 6 video cards!

My unit was $7 + shipping for 8mb ram 120mb HD. I added 16mb after removing 4x1mb simms for 20mb, and will probably give it a 1gb drive. I run os 7.1 on it since I have the aws95 for a/ux 3.

I would be temped to run a/ux 2.x if somebody had it since thats the version of a/ux that came with the IIfx (while ver 3 has 7.1 macos ver 2 use 6.0.x probably using alot less memory)

Well, I collected it last night, and it appears that the description was a little off. Instead of a 500 MB HD, there is one 700 MB and one 1.2 GB one. I also got a spare motherboard with ROM SIMM. There's an Apple AUI/BNC Ethernet card and a 24-bit SuperMac video card in it. The seller told me he also has a bunch of NuBus cards (video and Ethernet) laying around, and the RAM that used to be on the spare motherboard, another 20 MB. But he couldn't find it. Hope he finds it soon and lets me know, I wouldn't mind getting some more RAM.

All in all, a pretty schweet deal.

It's always a nice surprise to know that when you get a computer, it might contain some kind of fantastic goodies beyond human comprehension. Like the 2 hard drives in my IIsi, and the ethernet card, and how even though the 6100 was borked, I was able to use it's parts (goes on and on and on)

have fun!
