I need advise on which 68K based webserver application would work good for simple http serving. My 8600 will be taking the lead role in web serving for downloads and other services which require PPC, so I think I will offload the simple html pages to the 950. WebStar I hear will work on a 68K, but finding copies of these old programs is tough. btw, Does anyone have a copy of Machttp that will run on 68K? I think the new releases are PPC only. |

I use MacHTTP for my webserver, and NetPresenz for FTP on my 605. It is rock solid- been up 24/7 since july, and decently fast (on a 42mhz '040). Before then, any downtime was from power outages. My demands are outgrowing this setup, so a linux install on the 605 is in the works. A/UX doesnt come with apache, you will have to download it and then compile it. Make sure to get the GCC because I hear the built in one doesnt compile stuff right because it isnt ANSI compliant. I have all of the stuff archived off onto my site. http://jupiterheights.com:8080 and then look in the a/ux directories. here it is specifically http://jupiterheights.com:8080/AUX3/AUX%20Stuff/A-UX%20stuff/ I would bet that a quadra 950 would be a dynamite webserver as I really cant see a webserver on a connection as limited as cable or DSL really getting hammered by a lot of traffic. I also have copies of quid pro quo and webstar, with reg numbers if you decide to go the macos route. QPQ is really good software and I used a lot when I was big into hosting stuff off of my quadra 950. QPQ is 68k I dont know about my copy of webstar.Logan Quadra 950, Workgroup Server 9150, Performa 6400, Powerbook 2300c, 4x Quadra 700's, iBook

Still the board supports DMA transfers and has cache on board (think there is processor cache too not sure). Its one BIG board. I should find a link on the net to see exactly what it does. I paid $7 for it on ebay quite a while ago. It seems like every computer I buy gets all kinds of upgrades for it over time.

all versions of MacHTTP will work on 68k, last I checked. ( did he actually update that thing?)Apache might work on A/UX, I would like to see it be done, because of a project that I've been wanting to do, would be good with A/UX on a 68k. If you can get Apache running, I'd like to see php and/or Perl running also! Maybe MySQL, then I could all but replace my G3 with a 68k runnin' A/UX as my server Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Hey greg, do you happen to have DSL [or something else with a dynamic IP- and no router]?Cause, I can't figure out how to get A/UX to even recognise Ethernet [the network control panel killed it, and it wants me to "fsck manually"] [on a Quadra 950 with ~28mb RAM and a 500mb HD, and A/UX 3.0.1 (I think)] If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!
