OK

The two of us went out and this is some of what we found

2x LC 2
1x LC 475
1x ][e clone, unbrander, looks awful
1x ][e (brown not platinum) mouse card, dual disk card, 80col expansion card with it's own TV out (mine just uses the onboard video out), weird card with a speaker on it, epson printer card, Apple DUO disk drive (2x 5 1/4) left the epson dot matrix though. Oh and a monitor.
1x SE dual floppy
1x complete 486 in AT tower case
1x Perfect micro ATX case with all accessories!
1x 14" Apple Trinitron
1x Apple color plus display
1x 44MB external syquest, nice SCSI case.
1x Apple extended keyboard
1x Apple Extended 2 keyboard
1x microsoft PS2 natural keyboard
1x videocom 15" monitor
1x half decent AT tower case
1x Compaq Tower case, good PSU
innumerable CD and floppy drives
1x box of 5 1/4's with MS windows on them, will be reformatted for the ][2 though
1x external 56k Modem
1x USB externam 56k modem
1x Apple mouse
System 6 users guide
Appletalk ring-bound manual
1x AT PC with cyrix M2 300 and PCI video card
2x AT PCs with 166 chips

We stripped most of the stuff keeping the best bits. I'll be maxing out my ][gs tonight the rest will be devided between the orth ][gs and my platinum ][e which will go on ebay.

Oh and going back to the poor quality of modern computer gear you would not beleive the number of 1-2 year old printers out on the street, mostly HPs a couple of lexmarks and a lot of old laser printers that we just couldn't be bothered with because they were too big. We also found 3 or 4 enormous AT server cases, each about 4 foot tall and 2 giant double width AT server cases.

Umm ... hate to tell you but all three of the ATX PSUs we picked up don't work! One gave off a nice smell and let off some pretty black smoke even.

Fired up the SCSI scanner this morning ... cathode OK, seems to track up and down with no problems - looks like it's OK!

Usually if you find a complete system in the trash its because nobody wanted it, if you find parts its because they are bad.

Some people will pick anything out of the trash. This summer we had some water in the basement that got a carpet wet and at the same time a few of our cats got flees. So I decided to get rid of the carpet then chemical bomb the basement. My mom said on trash day some guy came and picked up the damp (probably moldy) flee infested carpet and stuck it in their car and drove off with it. Makes you wonder what people will pick up if its free.

Cool I didn't actually mention them in the list of good stuff though!

I hope you're not knocking what we found, this is the conquests forum. And whilst it's true that a lot of what gets thrown out doesn't work 99% of the computer stuff we;ve ever found does, the exceptions being monitors and printers as these are cheap mass produced crap, in general. With most things being so cheap people just replace rather than repair, recycle etc.

When I say nobody wanted it its because people in this day and age would rather buy a new pc every 2 years then keep the old one going. Alot of the old PC computers I collect get tossed by people all the time because they are obsolete. I am not knocking what you found, most of the items I would pick up myself for free (asuming I have space which I am running out of)
