Day of the SlimJim

The Lightning Stalker Full Member USA 747 Posts	Posted - 08 Oct 2003 : 19:05:17 Last night I stopped at Wal-Mart to see if they had any liquid electrical tape. I couldn't remember what I came for right away, so I sat in the lot with the keys in the ignition for a few minutes until I remembered. So I went in and they didn't have it, so when I came back out to the car, there were the keys, hanging out of the ignition, and the car was locked up tight. Luckily, I had my new pocket organizer with names and fone numbers of some people I know. So, I was able to call one of them and got a ride home. We don't have any spare keys for this car, so it was either try unlocking it with this SlimJim I got at the dollar store, or call a locksmith. So you know what my wallet said. So I try slipping it between the weatherstripping and the glass a few times, but it would only go down a couple inches and stop. Then I tried using it to open the little triangular "breeze window" and that didn't work either. So as a last resort, I was able to slip it between the weatherstripping and the metal of the door. The first time it went all the way in and hit something and I tried pushing down on it, but it wouldn't unlock the door. The second time I put it in the other way and tried pulling up on the thing and lo and behold it worked. That was the day of the SlimJim. What I do is have one car key on my reguar keychain and the one I put in the ignition I put in my other pocket or change pocket. That way if I'm ever locked out, I just use the other key. For your info, I drive an 88' GMC Safari. So it has the double door's on the back and you can only open the left one after you open the right, so I had to pop the right one open. But you guys were right about the little box.
