Last night I stopped at Wal-Mart to see if they had any liquid electrical tape. I couldn't remember what I came for right away, so I sat in the lot with the keys in the ignition for a few minutes until I remembered. So I went in and they didn't have it, so when I came back out to the car, there were the keys, hanging out of the ignition, and the car was locked up tight.

Luckily, I had my new pocket organizer with names and fone numbers of some people I know. So, I was able to call one of them and got a ride home.

We don't have any spare keys for this car, so it was either try unlocking it with this SlimJim I got at the dollar store, or call a locksmith. So you know what my wallet said.

So I try slipping it between the weatherstripping and the glass a few times, but it would only go down a couple inches and stop. Then I tried using it to open the little triangular "breeze window" and that didn't work either. So as a last resort, I was able to slip it between the weatherstripping and the metal of the door. The first time it went all the way in and hit something and I tried pushing down on it, but it wouldn't unlock the door. The second time I put it in the other way and tried pulling up on the thing and lo and behold it worked.

That was the day of the SlimJim.

The first time I spotted slim-jims in a 99˘ store I bought four of them . . . and I've never seen them again. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're illegal!

I locked my keys in my truck at work one time. Me and my boss spent 30 minutes trying to open it from passenger door. Finally we gave up and decided to try the driver side door, got it on the first try.

lol, that is kindofscary, that cars are so easy to get into like that though

luckily, I've seen no such weaknesses in school busses, because there's no way to lock the back and side doors

Oh, if you try and start marketing those slimjims as something else…

"Who needs a skeleton key? I've got a SlimJim!" [commission for finding a new use for them; maybe start the WD-40 thing "10-Million uses for a SlimJim" ]

If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

Actually, it took about 20 minutes. Cars aren't really that easy to get into, which is good, because someone will probably see the perp while he's trying to get in.Go to Top of Page

it was relating to the 10-million uses, and to me, the 'topic' is whatever the focus of my night is, and if I posted that last night, the topic was, finding a projector before I get Panther.

What is it with people, and saying that I kill threads?

just the other day, I posted what was called "a forumkiller in a amall package" apparently.. (a different forum)

It surely is interesting though, to see all the people run around in circles and scream about what I say....

Anyhoo...

"slimjims"

someone should make a snack-stick called a "fat-bob" or something?

/me is trying to think of ways to keep the thread 'alive'

Try our solution…

get a little plastic box with a magnet on it and stick your key in it, then hide it under your bumper
[these things are pretty common at 99˘ stores]

If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

What I do is have one car key on my reguar keychain and the one I put in the ignition I put in my other pocket or change pocket. That way if I'm ever locked out, I just use the other key. That's my car anyway. The suburban is my grandma's and I only have 1 set.

I actually kinda HAD to drill the hole cause, my back door's lock was busted anyways. For your info, I drive an 88' GMC Safari. So it has the double door's on the back and you can only open the left one after you open the right, so I had to pop the right one open. But you guys were right about the little box. Those are the first places theives check.

ahh... ok

hehehe double doors.

I guess I'm just going to have to be careful with my car keys, because it sounds like it's really easy for a bunch of peope to really bork out their cars if they're not careful.
