Last Friday, I went into a thrift store in search of LC 475 parts, and saw nothing interesting, until under a table I spotted a solid unit Mac with no model badge. I picked it up, very dirty, school machine, serial #s everywhere, grime. Then I went to look for keyboards, but only found some Apple Extended Keyboards with no cables. When I walked back, the mystery mac I moved was back, but it was clean except for stickers and sharpie, and now wore a model badge that said "LC 580" I then noticed this was another machine that had just been sat out. Sticker said $8, Works, over a sticker that said $20, Works. I bought that thing, and rode with it in my lap 25 miles in my dad's old pickup. Works great, upgraded to 7.5.5.
33MHz, 24MB RAM, 800MB IDE HDD, CD, Floppy, ClarisWorks 4, After Dark, The Digital Chisel, other odds/ends. I managed to use it to make the 800k disks for the Macintosh SE System 6 upgrade, and now have 2 working macs and an ImageWriter II. If only I had a modem.

wow something reasonably priced at a thrift store… around here an SE/30 is usually labeled like 30$ [I guess they didn't know how to be creative ]; 6100's are usually 40$…

prices like that.

If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

Those things do IDE too! Get yourself an ethernet card and you've got yourself an MP3 server!

Or you can put in a Video System, and use it as a poor man's video capture system, like i do on my LC630.

if only the 580's could have remotes and the TV/FM system, you'd have an expensive man's TV/VCD (OH! and the MPEG kit )

Why an expensive man's TV? Can't you get those things dirt cheap over in the US?

How many TVs do you know of, that can run System 8.1, record automagically at any given time, can play MPEG CDs, VCDs, listen to audio CDs, play games, and output to other stuff...

the LC580 and 630s can do all of that "and more"

somewhere I did see like, a 13" TV that had a 56k modem, cute, but still nothing like a 580
