.....BUT I STILL DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometime this year when I wasn't there, the AppleCentre i used to work at THREW OUT a FULLY WORKING POWERBOOK 3400c/200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the RAM in that beast ALONE had to be worth about AU$75!!! And it would've been a PERFECT machine for me too, with its ethernet and PPC, and portability. Ah well. Back to bitching about windows and trying to figure out how i can convince the PAF to let me bring my 8100 with me.... What a sad, sad, sad waste.

Sorry, i just had to rant.

Too bad you aren't in the States. I've got one of those I'd like to sell.

I just hope that next year i'm moved into a bigger room, and have the PAF to bring either the 8100 or the iMac with me. I'm sick of being stuck with Windohze. Its too depressing.

Stores are idiots. Like that local store that threw away $10,000.00 worth of macs because "oh we couldn't find anyone to take it" BS.

They throw money away and then they bitch after about not having met thier financial goals.

Just like big wigs who hire a consultant who is an expert in thier field and what do they do? They ignore the consultant, pay him his dues and go right back to the way they are doing things and make the company flop out.

Typical Humans.

They had: (5 years ago)

20 7600's
50 6100's
4 Flats Of II-Class 68K's
100 7200's
Several WGS Systems
400 Nubus Adaptors (Various Video, LAN Sound etc.)
Over 200 SCSI hard Disks
30 PowerBooks ranging from 140 to 5300
3 Giant Plotters
20 14" Macintosh Monitors
10 15" Apple Displays (CRT)

When I left, I had 4 flats of IIcx,vx etc type machines stacked up as tall as I could, which was about a good 5-6 feet per flat, with a good oh, 50 or more units stacked per flat. I had 10 boxes of Nubus cards, adaptors and all manner of hard to find and valuable parts that people are looking for, all inside these huge boxes that originally were for 17" CRT's. We also had a huge selection of External SCSI cases, hard disks and a few RAID arrays. Not to mention a huge stockpile of System Software.

The estimate of $10,000.00 is a bit of an understatment with some of the specialized stuff they had, not to mention what we had in stock was only a small portion of the total amount which was still in the warehouse. (The warehouse is insanely huge compared to the store)

So, they just dumpedit and to be honest I don't think Bret, who is the manager of the warehouse, really cared. See, which is a shame, since it should be about profit, and since it wasn't an easy profit, it wasn't worth anything to them.

Thier loss.

Thats a shame. A real shame. And that was back when the 7x00 machines were NEW! (Well almost new, anyway...less than 3 years old)

Either to dumps, recyclers, or to be auctioned off dealers in lots. The Macs may be mixed in with bigger lots, the dealers don't know what to do with them so they look up the current market price in some catalog. Those prices are always way too high (say a couple of hundred bucks for a PowerBook Duo 210), but they aren't willing to budge more than a few percent. The dealers are left wondering why they can't sell them, so they end up sending them to the dump.

People, even dealers, are so used to fixed market prices that they don't understand that anything can be sold if the price is right.
