Hello all,Here are the specs and history of this machine: I got a case from a friend who was throwing out this 14slot ISA PeeCee server. I stole the case, took off the back panel, and hacked up a half decent back panel from some EMI shielding (so very resourceful ). I then put a rev c mobo, rev a rom, beige G3 into it. Over time, it ended up with the following specs: 233mhz ZIF 448mb RAM 4 GB SCSI drive 5 GB ATA drive(maybe 40GB ATA) 24x CD Drive floppy TWO 100base ethernet cards standard sound perch card All this sitting in a 4u, black, lockable rackmount case. I will include a 300mhz ZIF, but the machine gets too hot in its current, almost fanless (the one fan in the 300w ATX PSU is all there is) setup. If you add the 300mhz ZIF, you most surely will need a fan. a VERY large fan is built into the case, with an air filter, but it is too noisy for me to keep in my room. I will also entertain some deals involving mini-itx PeeCees (that run linux!) for trade-ish ideas. ~The Penguin (Ben) magicpenguin@torpedobird.com **| Want free 68kmla email? picturesThe machine is still in use, so it isn't exactly the best/easiest to take pictures of. If you are really observant, some things are different than the post says, so let me clarify. There are two drives in this machine right now, neither are the one you will get, you WILL get ONE 24x CD drive, and two bezels incase you change the 5.25" config. The rackmoutn tabs are also not present in this picture, but they will be included with the proper screws (they hinder it fitting on the shelf i have it on) The second enet card will also be added, as well as the official G3 heatsink. Also, depending on timing of things, as well as if it added more of an incentive, I may put a 40GB HD instead of the 5, depending on when I get my 45GB SCSI in and such. email me or post if you want/need more details. I will include a keyboard(no mouse, i don't have enough as is), power cord, three ethernet cords, and a 14" apple monitor (just pay shipping on it, purely optional) I have arrived on a (sort of) price for this thing. Without the 40GB HD, I would assume the whole thing would be acceptable around $200 + S&H *or* $240 **including** shipping, whichever is cheaper. If you want the 40GB, I am asking $220 + S&H *or* $255 **including** shipping, again cheaper first. Hope that helps, ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? ummm... I don't have any miniATX cases, I do have a mobo, but 'tis only a P90, so really not that good..... hehe. I've been looking for a rackmount case for a while now, but I havn't found one large enough to hold anything I need it to do without having to be half the size of a full rack, but that would be good for just a simple server. BTW, you havn't felt hot until you've run a server with multiple full hight 5.25" drives... it gives off enough to make my garage toasty warm in this chilly canadian wethar. >= ) muahahahhaha anyhoo....THnsns "isn't he in the... groin-kick-void or whatever? 10000Th poster and 1000Th AND 1500Th topic creator in lounge. and remember, if you try and install mac OS 10.2 on an early G3, you will go insane, and aquire a thirst for blood! |

If you plug the one built in fan on, you could light a fire in there and not have it overheat. Sucker is HUGE, fast moving, and creates L:OTS of cool air. However tis a bit noisy.~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? Cory: Currently everything is on it, but here is what is going on. I have another G3 that is going to be receiving a 47GB HD, and is going to have linux set up RIGHT on it this time (my current server is good, but I know more now then I did.) The rackmount is cool and all, but it just doesn't have a really big need in my room or as having to house a server.Foetoid: I *may* consider selling the case seperate, but that is going to be a while down the line. So far I have had no one interested in the machine at all ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? Just let me know if you decide to, I would have bought the whole machine from you, but I'm already in a deal to get a Beige G3. And therefore if you decide to just get rid of the case, I want it so I can make the G3 rackmount. Just let me know if you decide to. ________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com da band: http://www.burningabbey.com |

I am interested, but seeing as I don't have 255$ laying around… [and Im not to likely to get it anytime soon…]How much would you sell just the 300mhz ZIF [and I am correct in thinking that it would work in a 233 G3 DT, right?] If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac! I don't see why it wouldn't work. I was interested in this, too, at first, but I've got a 266, so there wouldn't be any noticable pervformance gains. The Lightning Stalker Performa 631CD, 7.5.5 LC III Mail Server Q610 Q650 6400/180 40/1.6G/512k L2/enet/video-in/TV 7600/120 '604/233, 80/1.2G & 4G, 9.2.2 (Main Mac) Lady Smith Apples: Apple IIc 5.25" 2 Apple IIe |
