myself and my LC475. First of all, i'm from Greece, not
a very Mac-friendly place, i found this forum some time
ago, and i think it's cute, just like my 475.

I bought it back in '94 (or '93?) with 4MB/250MB/14" Performa Plus.
All this time it is in "active service" , doing everything you can imagine that this guy could do (and more...).

I upgraded it (once more)last month to this decent machine:
- Full 040 @ 25Mhz
- 4MB+64MB FPM Non-Parity 72pin SIMM, (from oempcworld.com, well-priced
and WORKING FINE)
- 500MB Qauntum
- D2 ext. CD drive 8x
- Asante 10T ethernet card, hoping to connect it to a WIN98 PC.
- Fresh OS 8.1 (used the RAM disk to install it to HD!)

Now, let me ask you:
Although the 500MB storage is fine for me, do you think that
upgrading to a faster disk will improve overall "speed" ?

and i was wondering if anyone has tested Sonnet's Quaddoubler card
on a performa or similar.

Welcome to the 68kMLA. It sounds like you have a very nice system there.

Upgrading the disk won't have much impact on speed, unless you use applictions that rely heavily on disk access. Just listen to your Mac -- if you often hear the disk accessing itself, then a faster disk might help. If your Mac's disk is quiet, like when typing in a document, then the disk is not really keeping things from running faster.

Enjoy your 475.

Welcome to the 68kMLA!

About the hard drive, G4 pretty much hit it right on the head, but when you are using the computer, are you often waiting for the drive to catch up with the machine? If not, you should be fine. Either way, nice system!

Thanks
Next, I'll try to connect to the PC via Ethernet
I'll let you know what happened, if it is interesting anyway

Ah....a 475...my first mac....sigh...

To connect you either turn the PC into a mac or the mac into a PC. I have a lot of macs and only one PC, so it was easier to turn the PC into a mac (as far as the networking is concerned!). I use Miramar's PC MacLan - it puts the PC on the AppleTalk network. You can also use it to print from the PC to AppleTalk printers - very handy as Win98SR2 stopped support for direct IP printing (grrrrr). Works very well. Available for Win9X/Me and NT/XP - I've used both.
