Well I wanted to be posting from my new iMac DV 450 but it's having a hard time. See, it misses it's old owner and keeps asking for her passcode phrases. So I gotta phone up and try and find out what they are. Anyone know how to erase passcodes of an iMac or do I need to grab the restore CD and wipe the ol lad clean? |

get a small monkey to sit there (with a keyboard that you don't particularly care about) and type every possible combination out, until you get the right one...Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Thanks for the help.I'm trying to solve the various troubles this Mac has, it freezes every now and then and is flaky, so I am going to be reseating some components and hope for the best. My friend believes it might be the logic board...which is sad if it is. Although, I might be able to squeeze the old iMac logic board in this one...although I would think this iMac is a ZIF cpu right? Darn Apple for changing thier specs.

Nope. All slot loading iMacs have their CPUs soldered onto the logic board. They are not removable."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

LOL, yeah, I did't know that... "so yeah" Also, if apple didn't change their specs, there would be billions of computers running @8MHz with 128k of memory, and a single 400k disc drive, not to mention a 512 by 384 monochrome screen... As it turns out, the firmware was not updated before the last person installed Mac OS X. It still is a bit flaky, it took 3 tries to get OS X installed properly but it seems ok. Every so often I do get Kernel panicks and it waits for a remote debug connection, but I am trying to get the 10.2.6 update in the hopes that perhaps some of that is fixed. If not, Classic doesn't seem as troubled by these issues and so I can just run Classic on this machine. So, I hope all turns out ok.

run Mac OS X 10.2.5 or 10.2.8... don't bother with .2.6, it's given me too much trouble, to believe that it deserves to exist....2.5 is one of the sweetest things I've ever used though...
