That's right, I open my Inbox and it says 40 new messages! And every friggon one is a Virus! Now, I'm on a Mac, so it's not like it's gonna hurt me, but it's anoying and it clogged up my mail server and my inbox. So, People using Windows should really check and make sure they are patched. I hate this sorta thing. Still doesn't beat the all time record I had over 300 e-mails in one day.

300? O_O
I have barely deleted any of my email [since I activated the account] and I only have ~160 some…

If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

The neat thing is, I set outlook to filter mail, so if a mail has an attachment of .exe, it's set to lowest priority and the attachment is removed.

Besides, I can't uses exe's.

Well I can't do that on uReach, and I've been getting a steady stream of at least 17 "bulk mails" (swen) per day... uReach has one of the most kickarse spam filters

It is pretty annoying, because those things are almost 200k per message, and I only get 6 mb of storage....

(BTW, uReach is a webmail.... www.ureach.com)

www.geektools.com

Use that to look up dns reports to find out who spammers are using and have them shut down by e-mailing thier hostmasters.

Also, Windows users can use MailWasher, which will actually create a bounce for any message you want, giving the user an instance "cannot deliver" error.

:)

So far I sent out 10 reports already. Most hosts don't turn of routing or whatever it's called and SPAM gets bounced this way. :/

niice, I've been thinking of enabling a mail service on my server, and possibly to let people who I know use that service...

I'm not so sure if I'd want to have a mail server now, especially in the past few weeks with so many eMail based virii

this morning, another 17 in my uReach SpamBox...

I'm signed up to many mailing lists, so I get probably 300+ A DAY, minus the spam, because mail filters it out

*pets his beige G3 server* Keeps runnin fine! Uptime is nearing 60 days!

I seriously doubt that there's any way snyone could be getting 500 spams a day, even 150 of just spams...

I can see maybe a published author or someone, who has his eMail address WAY out there, maybe getting 200-300 per day of eMails from people, but just in spams.... no way...

Spam bots don't care if someone is famous, well known, etc. The do one thing...KILL...erm, i mean send spam..
Before I went to my own server entirely, my former address received around 150-200 spam a day, so it is very possible. Of course, once it gets to such a level, som responsibility usually falls upon the end user.

that's just... "glayven"...

and 150-200 still isn't 500...

I said that famous people got 200-300 eMails/day from REAL people, and the last time i checked on that (ohw much eMail andy pogue got, IIRC), Spam wasn't much of a problem.... (1998?)

Spammers are having a fun fest with the new viruses because they activate anonymous proxies and smtp engines which spammers can then use to send spam with no traceable ID.

And Spammers send out literally Billions of e-mails a day. See, they get 2% sales roughly based on what they Spam. So if out of 1 million e-mails, 2% respond and out of that 2% another 2% buy, they are still making good money.

Sadly.

I bet, the internet would be 10% faster, if spam needn't exist...

Just think of all the spam servers recieve, Penguin's server for example, he recieves what, 150 eMails a day? noninclusive of the spams, IIRC... so if his server didn't get any spam, that's probably 10 MB of space not filled on his drive(s), 10 minutes not spent sorting out the bad stuff and deleting, (or 10% of the processors' time during a minute for Mail.APP to sort it...)

Then, there's the total amount of the transfer of that 10 MB that doesn't exist on the internet for that day, that could be used for more page loads of the MLA, so people can post more, or it could be used so that people can access his server more often, multimedia goes faster, and there's more credibility in sending real eMails.

when i had a hotmail account (for MSN Messenger ... i.e i didnt use it for any actual email), one day i emptied out the 50 or so pieces of junk mail that had accumulated over the last few weeks and the new mail thing in MSN happily said "0" for a few days ... next time i logged (the next night) on i had 556 pieces of new junk mail ... 556 in one day ... so i scrapped my account, and registered a .net account for my real email address ... now i oficially hate hotmail and havent used it since

I only use hotmail because MSN thinks people like crappy web-based e-mail. And, to make sure you never use a real e-mail account again, they run your connection through a proxy that blocks practally all non-http requests. BTW... does anyone here have a good proxy server that I can connect to? I need to access my non-MSN e-mail from home.
