Its very very fast. As a walked around the Apple store trying different machines, the G5s seemed noticably more responsive than any of the other machines. And this was only a single processor 1.8 GHz machine. I can't wait to see a dual 2 GHz. Slashdot has a discussion of an article (see http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/21/039223&mode=thread&tid=126&tid=181 ) on a speed comparison between a dual G5 and a dual 3 GHz Xeon from Dell. The G5 wins in 4 out of 6 tests. Like cory, I too wish that Panther would come out! Yeah, I mostly wanted panther because mac OS X 10.2.6 was treating me badly,. but I'm at .2.5 now, and we all are doing better Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

I was talking to a guy at the party last night, and he believes that the university may have at least 1 G5 on order, and that I might be able to see it sometime! I can't wait. I live too far away from mac placces to see one at all...*sniff* the closest place is CompUSA, and that is 45 min away. HOWEVER, The elementary school here just ordered two dual 2Ghz machines to host two lab rooms on/do video edititng (go figure we have $2 PeeCees at the highschool...) They also have a single proc Xserve, that thing was fuuuuun to play with ! ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? COOLNESS!I heard though, that VPC 6.1 won't run on the G5, because of something in the G3 and 4 that is needed... (I read it on Microsoft's website actually) Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Its the whole Big and Little Endian thing, and stuff the G5 lacks, or has too much of, etc. Once a company does a 64bit emu, it should fly. Mordorsoft probably won't though...~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? ML5, that seems a bit far to go for an apple place..... isnt there one anywhere on your side of Aus? How long a plane ride is it to Tokyo from there? I hear Apple is opening an Apple store there. But you'd probably rather go to LA for the apple store anyway if you were to travel heh._________________ Leutennant SCCHICAGO

Sky Harbor is a solid 15 hour flight from Brizzy. If there are no Aussie Apple Stores, then I'd bet there is one in Singapore.G4From128k by Day: Mild-Mannered Engineer and Trapeze(tm) Artist by Night: Colonel of Truth, Justice, and the Macintosh Way Reserve Officer in 68kMLA Cantankerous Coot Contingent

LOL!Well either way... I'm sure that it'd be more fun to visit me, than to try to learn a new language in Singapore... BTW: This is posted from Windows NT Workstation 4.0, in Internet Explorer 2.0!!! Lol, i was CrapUSA...unless i didn't quite get tomleven's joke. Obviously, as the name suggests, we don't have CrapUSA in Australia.
