a PowerBook 520! i'm about 99% sure it's mine. my school had it and was going to throw it away because "the disk drive is kaput". i offered to see what's wrong with it. knowing them they'll probably throw it away.. like they did to an LC575 last summer. i'm just hoping they'll forget about it.

i've only had it a day but for some reason i love it already. i borrowed one identical to this one from a friend a while back and i hated it.. but this one is very cool even with a greyscale screen and 8MB RAM.

Sounds kinda like the Compaq Armada 7400 I'm on right now... It's my schools, but they let me and 2 other guys take em' home for "educational" use. I love this thing... even though it's a windows machine. Gonna use it to record some stuff, and ive already had my way with it and ive only had it home for a few hours... have to get photoshop installed, and maybe put win2k on it... I'm going to ask the principal if at the end of the year if we can keep the machines when we go off to college. We're the only people that have used them, and they're pretty crappy refurb machines... I am thinking he may say yes if it's all in the name of education. But very cool about the PB... is it just a 520 or a 520c? What kind of specs does it have?

it's just a 520. there's a pile (20 or so) of 520c's in another building, but they're part of a lab so i don't think they'd let me have those, even though they're not using them.

specs:
250MB HD
8MB RAM
7.5.5
Dead PRAM and main battery only holds 5 minute charge.
Plastics and screen in great condition, except for the piece that covers the hinge. it's the one that always breaks on 500-series 'books. it's also got a dead floppy drive but i've got an extra.
