DAMN! Sorry to hear you didn't get the eMac. Either way, it still sounds like a nice PC. Btw, if you want a ROM to emulate a Mac, you can get a program to run on your Performa 580 that will copy the ROM to a file that you can copy to your PC, for use in Basilisk II. You can get it here, in a download that also contains Basilisk II. However, due to the fact that the emulation of things such as sound support is kinda weird at times, you'd probably be better off using your Performa, even though it won't be as fast as an emulated Mac."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

yeah, too bad about that eMac, Apple's future does sound great though, so whenever you decide to get a mac, you'll be really happy with that one /me repeats what ML5 said about ROM for mac... BUT, try to make suer that it's a machine you own, then it's completely legal (the hardware at least) and that you use software legally (system 7.5 and teachtext, for example, are completely legal to use ) It's like pirating hardware Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

It's not that I like to pirate hardware, it's that I'm just fascinated by the thought that it's possible to "pirate" computer hardware, just like you "pirate" software.../me thinks of TV emulation... let's "pirate" TV hardware Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Its not illegal, because you own a Performa 580. Its only illegal if you don't have the motherboard (or removed/desoldered ROM chips) for the Mac that you are emulating."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

The nitty gritty of the law is that Apple Computer never issued licenses for HardWare ROM, only thier Software OS. Which means technically Apple could sue people who used the emulators but it's not really worth thier time.Apple owns the ROM code, and even though the ROM ToolBox is part of the OS, it's not part of the Licensed OS you recieve, and Mac OS is only licensed for use on a Apple Branded or Apple Labeled PC. So, it's a tight squeeze and thankfully it's just 68K's because I think if someone right now did have a PowerPC emulator and people started dumping G3 and G4 ROMS, Apple would get a little ansy for good reason and have reason to flip out. Although with OpenFirmware, the old toolbox is virtually gone in that it's on CD, making it incredibly easy to snatch.

So would i, but even if it was possible to emulate the RISC based PowerPC on a CISC based Pentium, Apple would sue the developers' asses off."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
