Can't see why not. Once you have the service, you'd configure it on the Mac in the exact same way as you would if you were in the US.

If it's a modem only (non router) then I don't know what you'd need to do. Just as you have ethernet and PPP as options in the TCP/IP control panel, you'd need some driver/software/extension/call-it-whatever :) to give you PPPoE as well. If you can find that, then all's well and good. I only know of MacPoET (google for it, or pop on to versiontracker or macupdate.com too I think) but that's commercial, and I don't know if there are ancient 68k versions laying around. I've never done it that way myself.

I have a DLink modem/router in one, a DSL-500. It connects to the adsl service and acts as the gateway. That way any of the machines I have with ethernet connect just via ethernet as they would to any other network. The 68k mac's gateway is set to the router's IP address, DNS servers set to your ISPs DNS servers, give the mac an IP address, and it works!

I've browsed around using 7.1 on a Q605 a few times with this ADSL connection. It works happily that way.

if its a USB modem then no way, but if it is a ethernet one then it should be possible

if there is no router, things could get tough. MacPoet, IIRC, is PPC only. If so, finding the PPPoE software could be a bizatch. Do any of the older versions of IPNet***** handle 68k AND PPPoE?

Yeah this is what i was going to say, most people will provide a USB modem and there is no way it will work on a 68k mac. However there are plenty of routers with built in ADSL modems, you can then connect it to your 68k Mac as long as it has ethernet.

This new trend towards USB Ethernet etc., is bad. Even for a ADSL modem.

Why can't people keep the darn things simple ethernet that works for everyone?

I agree. There's a lot more computers out there with an ethernet port than there are with a USB port.

IIRC, OpenTranssport doesn't have support for PPPoE, hence needing macpoet and whatnot.

Hehe, free PPP I hated that thing. Does any one else remember that shocking bug it had where it wouldn't drop a connection! LOL, I remember when my friends bought a 6400, the thing got stuck on the internet for like 24 hours, which in the UK at that time cost a heck of a lot, especially mid week!

Lol, FreePPP isn't bad when you get used to it. Ever tried to get Windows 3.1 onto the internet? ;)

I haven't tried to do too much in 3.1, but it is good at what it does
