I just won 4x16 30 pin Simms on the e-bay for all of 1 euro ($1.10 US) and as they are in town, I don't even have to pay postage! Had to let people know who appreciate such things. I am amazed, as a set of 4 usually runs for anywhere between 10 and 20 euros here in Germany. I guess everyone was asleep this morning. Now the tough part - in what box do I put them in? The IIsi is chugging along with 17 Mb. I don't use it as often now that the Quadra 950 (80 Mb and 2 banks free) is up and running. So who gets it the si or the Q950? Liberated: MacIIsi (17/1Gb/500Mb) Performa 475 with full 33MHz 68040 processor (20/200Mb) Quadra 950 running A/UX (80/4.3Gb) p.s. I am considering reformatting the q950 so that half the disk is for A/UX and the other for OS 8.1. |

I would lean towards the 950 because it's a big workhorse and could always use more RAM.But it depends what you use each machine as. If the 950 is a server then the extra RAM will make it faster, meaning you can allocate more RAM to those hungry network apps.

Second vote for the 950. It's way faster than an si and there's nothing like a ton of RAM in a computer

Me too on the 950. The best Macs to load up with high-capacity 30-pin SIMMs are the 900, 950 and 700 -- in other words, the '040 Macs that use 30-pin SIMMs.The only other Mac that's really deserving of all that RAM IMHO is the SE/30. Load Mode32 on it (or find a IIsi ROM) and go nuts. My Vote: Put those SIMMs in your the next Mac you liberate! BTW, Congrats on winnig that memory. It's always great to get a good deal on a peripheral, memory, or much-needed Mac accessory. "Put those SIMMs in your the next Mac you liberate!"That will be hard, G4from128k, as I just got an e-mail from a guy wanting to unload his old Quadra 650 on me for 2.50 Euro dollars! Of course I agreed. It doesn't have a CD-drive, but 72-pin RAMS are a lot easier (and cheap) to come by! I pick it up at the end of the week.

I should suggest that you put part of that find in your IIsi and use is more often, and part of it in your 950 and use that as a server more often Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |

Shame on you Cory, being the MLA Mac IIsi expert and all! You know that the IIsi only takes a full bank of 4 of a kind! And I only have 4 16Mb chips. Now if I found another 4, that would be a different story...In any case, they will go into the IIsi for a week before finding their home inside of the q950 case. I want to add a second hard drive to the q950, but have to figure out how best to attach it first. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Picked up the ram last night and immediately plugged it in to the si. I kept on getting "type 1" errors, whatever that means, and the computor froze a few times. I was trying out netscape gold, iCab, mac-chess, and word4. I guess that means it goes straight into the q950. I have posted a related question in the A/UX forum for all those in the know about memory buffers and ram changes.
