I've been experimenting with different operating systems on my Toshiba Tecra laptop. At this time, I can't figure out how to get the display driver on NS/OS to work right, and the X server on Linux doesn't work right either. NT 4.0 Workstation ran fine, but it's Windoze. BeOS ran all right, except there's no driver for the video at anything over 640x480 VGA. I'd like to try OS/2 Warp 4. A while ago, I tried out Warp 3, and it was nice enough. However, lots of the software I'd like to run won't work with Warp 3. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of Warp 4, other than eBay (the PAF doesn't allow it)?

You mean to download? I don't know, check Kazzaa or something. They usually have lots of stuff.

Possibly a hotline server.

OS/2 is got the same dealies what with legality as per the NeXT... because IBM still sells it new... (so it's even more "hot" than NeXT and OpenStep)

Pfft, OS2 Warp is still being sold both by IBM and by Serentiy Systems as eComstation. Copying NeXTStep is one thing, copying BeOS is getting a bit wrong, copying OS/2 warp is really wrong. People are still making money out of it.

you can get the LATEST (up to date) version of BeOS for nearly free... it's older versions, and PowerPC versions that I'd consider ok to "steal"

but yeah... go to ibm.com and get warp... it's $700 for workstation IIRC, but it'll be REALLY good...

be sure to buy a few copies/liscences for us as well...

(maybe 700 was for server?) I haven't looked at the prices in quite awhile...

I am suprised IBM hasn't ditched OS/2 Warp with it embracing Linux etc.

Its pushing Linux as the replacement for OS/2, but not entirley due to the eComstation contract.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll beg my parents to let me bid on Warp 4 on eBay.

I was looking more for a regular online store to buy it from - like you can still buy BeOS 5 Pro from PurPlus.

Os/2 V 4 should be cheap on ebay, and can be found on some OS/2 specific binarie newsgroups if your cheap.

I own legit boxed versions of v3 red spine (no built in windows 3.0) and blue spine (with windows).

Guy in my home town was selling it when I was there a year ago, but no longer. My wife works at IBM, she didn't even know what OS/2 was! Apparently not in use at all in her facility. They make AIX as well, which you can run on PPC boxes and laptops. Never tried any ov this stuph myself

AIX is the stuff what ran on AppleNetwork Servers... you'll need it if you ever get one, get it while you work at IBM, lol....

Lol!

It just so happens that I *acquired* about 200 copies of OS2/Warp 4 just before it was officially released, however I turned most of them in to clocks and the few I have left are packed away somewhere at my parents house, otherwise I'd have given you as many copies as you wanted.

There I was thinking it was completely worthless!
