I plugged the cables in & the Mac side is up & running though I can't "see" the pc yet on my 840av. I am not sure what to do on the pc side, it does have networking software but it dosn't seem to clear. The mac wins hands down for networking! shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |

Your basic requirement is to get both your Mac and your PC to speak the same protocol. You can use TCP/IP if you set up a Client/Server setup like FTP for file sharing, for example. But what you're obviously looking for is something more direct. Your options are essentially to add AppleTalk to the PC or to add a PC protocol to the Mac. Miramar's PCMacLan will add AppleTalk to the PC and you're all set. The other direction is to add Dave or MacSOHO (both from Thursby Systems) to the Mac. -I just looked up MacSOHO, which I've always loved, and I see that Thursby no longer sells it (abandonware?) but it's also OS 8.6 and up, so probably no-go for 68K anyway. Dave 2.1 should do the trick.SE, Classic II, SE/30, IIcx, IIci, IIx, IIfx, LCIII => Q605 (the mega-upgrade) PB190cs, Duo2300c PM6100, PM8100, PM8500, Beige G3, 17" G4 iMac |

PC MacLAN is the best bet, put that on the PC. The DAVE for 68k Macs was buggy and crashed alot when I tested it on my 840AV. (It is commercial software, but maybe you can find an old copy on eBay)If you need to put files back and forth, a simple ftp server on the Mac with a root password giving access to all volumes is a perfect way, then you can just ftp stuff in and out. NetPresenz is perfect for that. I also would recomend putting a ftp server on the PC, since it most likely will have more disk space than the Mac, and I always found with large AV capture sessions, I needed a place to put stuff when I ran out of room. So, the PC is a perfect host for files that need a temp home. Just be sure to Iether stuff them using HQX or BIN to make sure they won't get corrupted.

You had that old PC?set it up as an NT server with services for mac, and shuttle files back and forth with that, NTFS volumes don't bork out the resourceforks, so that should work... Have you looked at this site . . .http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/pc2mac.html There are two versions of DAVE that can be downloaded, but I have not tried either of them.
