Did i ever tell you that I hate Windohze?

I just spent 3 FRICKING HOURS tracking down a very sneaky virus. W32.SoBig, to be exact. Everything's fine now, but thats three hours i will never get back, 3 hours that i could've spent doing OTHER stuff if i was on a Mac or a linux box.

So why are you running Windoze if you know it has so many security holes? That's like not wearing your seatbelt. It's just dumb.

GRRRR. Don't even tell me about so big.

Last week, Blaster hammered the network, and although no computers were infected at the library where I work, network traffic was slowed to a crawl.

Thursday, SoBig managed to infect some Win2k machines on campus. Ka-Blamm! There goes the network.

Every NTkernal based machine on campus had to be patched. That's over 3k machines.

My personal workstation, being W98 was fine. The Library's servers, being Sun or Linux boxes, were fine.

300+ Computers in the library had to be completely re-imaged.

The big projects I had planned to work on that day were no-gos because I needed the WWW to do them.

Oh, and to make matters more fun, last week is one of the highest traffic weeks in the library because we allow non-students to use our computers, which means that the registrar's office sends in-coming students over to use our computers. No network, no registration.

On the bright side, our systems team worked their asses off to get everything reimaged, and we were 3rd on the list for having our network access restored. The only offices with higher prioritys were the Registrar's office and the Bursar's office.

F'ing Microsoft and their fecalmatter code! Full of nooks and crannys for virus writers to 'sploit.

On a forum I moderate that has nothing to do with computers, we mac users (and there are a fair amount because a lot of comics creators hang there) have convinced several folks to seriously start thinking about OSX. One guy asked about "build your box" possiblities and I posted a lot of evilBay links for him to look at.

O_O why would they replace old iMacs…
my school isn't 100% up to G3 even…

If I open my window all the bugs will get in…That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

neither is mine ... but because there is some stupid rule that they have to have computers under 2 years old (i think its 2 years) for people studying computing, they had to get new ones ... most teachers have LCs or Performa 5500s

they have already sold them (and the two teachers B&W G3s) off

Damn! Kinda silly though, selling the iMacs and G3s rather than using 'em to replace the older machines...
