Well I am building a serial port server as I more stuff than ports. I have a P166 single board computer, it is about half the size of a via ITX board. I dont want a hard drive in it due to noise and power reasons. I decided to use a compact flash card with a compact flash to IDE adapter. I can order them for about 15 shipped but I thought I could save a few bucks by building it my self. In theory it is faily simple as they are electronicly compatable just the pin outs are different. I go down to Frys and buy the cheapest CF reader they have which was 9.99. I pull the socket and try to soder a wire to it. Seeing as how the pins are spaces 0.05in apart this is easier said than done. So I decide to pull out the pins and soder them, I break 3 doing this. Which is okay as I only need 45 of the 50 pins. And hour later I only have 18 of 45 pins soldered. I do stuff like this all the time. I spend hours screwing around with something to make it work just to save 5 bucks. One of these days I will learn to just go buy the damned part. --Eric ___________________________ I Took the Road Less Traveled, and Now Where the Heck Am I? |

I talk alot and end up throwing stuff out, that's my way. I'll probably give away my parts and buy something new.

Well I finished soldering last night, but it did not work. My solder joints were too big so when I the pins back in they all touched. So much for that plan.--Eric ___________________________ I Took the Road Less Traveled, and Now Where the Heck Am I? |
