I like to think I am a rational person. So, that being in mind, I went along with Netgear's request for me to have the old product shipped to them and replaced.

Today the Router has died..yet again. I couldn't kep a conversation going in AIM, and my general network was hell.

So, let's see. I paid 79.99 for the router, then I paid 25 dollars to have it shipped back to them to be replaced. Knowing them, they will ask me to ship it out again to be replaced. That now means I have paid 130 dollars for a 80 dollar product and have no working product.

So, I will be calling them tomorow and asking to speak with the manager with whom I will request a full refund and appropriate damages. (I realize many of you may say good luck, but under legal law, companies are required to do this, even though seldom do they, but I am not going to be quiet. I am going to be the squeaky hinge, I won't shut up untill my demands are met.)

I will outline to them I will never be purchasing thier products again, I will not be recommending thier products and I will be as soon as I get my refund, going to the store and purchasing a product sold by thier competitors. They have had thier chance to settle this, and the product they sent me was defective as well, lasting even less than the original. I have had it for less than 2 weeks, and it is now dead.

If I have to write a letter I will. I know business and legal jargo well enough that I can provide a convincing reason for them to comply.

The big reason many people never get refunds or proper compensation is they don't persist. They don't hang on like a leech and scream mistreatment long enough for the company to get so sick and tired that they cave in or fear that this will affect them in a bad way. I mean, no sane person is going to take a company to court over a 79.99 product, but I could file something in small claims court saying they refused a reasonable offer in lieu of the fact that all of the products they have sent me so far have been non-operational and I have had to foot expenses to accomdate the RMA's.

Anyways, I'll end my rant there, but I am not going to be quiet on this one, Netgear has really pissed me off. Now they can see what it's like to have a Bipolar Schitzofreniac after them for 130 dollars.

Sounds like the problems I had with my very tasty 17" LCD screen

It goes like this, bought it, took it home, screen on an angle beccause it wsn't put together. took it straight back to shop, they refused to replace it, took it to their head office refused to replace it, said the only way to get anything done was for me to get it repaired under warranty EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BROKEN BEFORE IT LEFT THE SHOP!!! courier collects it 4 days late, no offer of a temporary replacement of any sort, arrives back 1 week later in exactly the same condition because the retard on the phone didn't right down the problem and the repair guys only checked it for dead pixels. Goes off to get repaired again, eventually have working screen 3 and a bit weeks after I paid for it!!

The worst thing is consumer rights in Australia suck. In the UK they would have been required by law to provide a replacement or refund, failing that the credit card company would have take it up for me and got everything sorted.

Apparently in Australia the fact that I could get it repaired under warranty the shop didn't have to lift a finger to help!!!!!!

Thats shocking, Gothikon. But...even here in AU, isn't it required to be of merchantable quality (that is, it must work properly)?

I still need to file the claim with FedEx... stupid school makes it so hard to do ANYTHING... and with my mom and dad working midnights, I can't use the later hours of the night to be online, incase the APG calls them with a furlough... :ugh:

I *personally* don't use any network hardware other than D-Link - even right down to my ethernet cards. Of course where this is not possible (NuBus mostly) I can't but still.... Other brands I trust are SMC and Belkin. I think both NetGear and Linksys are cheap corner cutters. D-Link stuff is not much more expensive and it does the job 24/7. Plus their network hardware has a lifetime return-to-base guarantee.

Well, I am going to get a whole bunch of Nubus Ethernet Cards and use the 840 as a router. At least till I find another solution.

First I need a hub. Because I have 2 static IP's, so the network will use one and my server will use the other one.

lol, yeah so you have two ports on your modem or something?

or just two different IPs that you're allowed to have?

you can probably cable into the quadra, a cable for each of those IPs, and then have, inside your network, one machine with ip 192.168.2.7 (on your network mind ye) take requests on external IP 1... then the machine at ..2.54 take requests from said IP address #2
That should do you well...

There will be one machine open without a firewall. This will be the machine that does serving etc. The others will be behind the firewall. This is so I can use ither IP to host sites without conflicts.

I was going to add my laptop to the mix but I am selling it.

Well, after being promised a refund and them going back on that promise, I sent them a firm e-mail saying:

You can understand my frustration here as I am with no
product that works so far and I have already paid not
only the 79 dollars to purchase it and another 25 to
RMA it.

I am not eager to try another revision of the RP614,
it has left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak. I am
unsure as to what Netgear's issues have been towards
the quality they usually have in thier products, but
it has slipped on this product.

A good friend of mine has recommended the MR814 as
being a reliable Netgear Product, so perhaps a deal
can be made to provide this unit as a replacement,
since so far I have spent a considerable amount over
and beyond the original purchase price, including the
fact that the original product had a rebate and as of
yet the rebate is late, and to have such a large
amount of frustration over this product, lost
productivity time due to long hours on the phone with
Netgear support, through which no real solution has
been achieved, being told that certian platforms are
not supported and a general mess of communication,
being 3 times promised a call back and at least 3 days
later still waiting for a callback.

I understand each company has it's own problems, but
when problems rise to this magnitude it is a warning
sign.

If you can find a way to have the aRP614 I have
replaced with a MR814, then I will be a satisfied
customer. I do not under any circumstances want any
more RP614 machines, they are no longer worth my time
and stress.

I leave this in your capable hands.

David

So they have agreed to replace the RP614 with a MR814. All I have to do is find a credit card to use or else I have to foot shipping the damn old router back. (Or I can see if they can just quit the nonsense and get me my darnied router!)

Oh, and Cinemafia, if the MR814 doesn't work......well, I'll have to think about some form of punishment for you.

Of course, you know I'd never do that to a fellow MLA'er. Especially when he is expecting. btw, not sure if I said congrats. My mind is losing me, or if I am losing my mind would it seem my mind is losing me?

The whole thing stinks. I'm sorry the hear it, and I hope once you get it your MR814 works as well as mine. As I mentioned, I had to call tech support the first day I got it to find out that you have to hold the reset button in for at least 45 seconds to get it to default to factory settings. It's been a-ok since then, though.

If this doesn't work I will send a formal letter to the Corporate Head Office and ask them if they are on crack.
