Does anyone have MIDI working on a 190cs? On one hand I've read reports that say the 190 (and 5300) aren't good for working with MIDI, and on the other hand I've read reports of people using 190s for MIDI work, so I tend to believe that it can be done.I'm using a simple Anatek "Pocket Mac" MIDI interface, but I've also used a simple MacMan MIDI interface. Both work fine with an SE/30 running 7.5.3r2, and on a Duo2300c with OS 8.1. My 190cs is running OS 8.1 and I just can't get any communication from computer to MIDI interface on the 190. No lights, nothing. Here's an odd thing, I installed OMS and ran the Setup routine, where it checks for MIDI interfaces of many different types. The lights on my MIDI interface lit up several times during that check, so it looks like it *can* be made to work, but I'm stumped. After the setup routine ran, all lights were out on the MIDI interface. Bottom line: I still can't get my 190cs to talk to my MIDI interfaces. Ideas? Well I got it to work afterall!I did a clean install of OS 8.1. Appletalk was set to the Printer/Modem port, so I aimed it at the infrared port instead (my 190cs has the infrared upgrade) and then MIDI works fine on the port when I set the MIDI software to "modem." I also have the Focus Enhancements LapisColor MV16EN combination expansion card for external video and ethernet, as well as a PCM/CIA ethernet card and a PCM/CIA modem card, but I haven't installed the drivers for them yet. I don't know what my conflict was before, but it was clearly something interfering with the base OS 8.1 setup. Hope this may help others, but judging from the lack of replies to the original post, I'm thinking there's not a lot of people using PowerBook 190s for MIDI work! Oh well! At least I'm working now! I used to use a Mac Plus to run my home MIDI studio. I used Performer 1.0 and hooked up the Apple MIDI interface to the modem port. It worked great!
