Just to let you people know

essentially, liberation is taking a 68k Macintosh computer from an un-loving environment (ie: dumpster, garage sale) and bringing it to a loving and caring environment.

similarly, buying a 68k from eBay really doesn't count as liberation unless you get an outstanding deal, it is painfully obvious that the seller has no clue what he/she is selling and Mac in question was not loved/cared for

dig?

Agreed. But if you buy a Mac from eBay, how do you know that the seller hasn't just cleaned it up to make it look more attractive to hook buyers? Thats what i was talking about to Graphite Goodness earlier on this afternoon.

Not only that, but if a) you get an incredible deal and/or b) you were the only bidder, it's fairly evident that the machine was not being used, and was probably going to sit gathering dust and corroding on some forgotten corner or <shudder> damp basement.

It is one I plan on adding to my count...whenever it gets here!

Here is one eBay auction that would be "liberating" the poor Mac [a Quadra 610]:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2000900297

From auction text:

"...If not sold it will be thrown away. If you need just a piece (or pieces) of it let me know. If not auctioned here it will be trashed."

Very Very unloving environment for this mac. Noooo!!! Not the trash if it is not sold!!! Poor Quadra, even though it is only a 610!

Fire, that's exactly what my Quadra 840av looked like when I bought it! Now aren't you glad I spray-painted it black?

*sigh* Well, you could have sanded it down a smidge and put a clear varnish on it...

Hey Moose! You are a big spender...lol! I don't need any 405's. Have a stack of LCII's and come to think of it a 405 and 410.

It does make me cry that a guy would throw out a 610 on ebay...that is still a usefull machine and still in one of my favorites.

I'd save that 610, but I dont have liberation money. :( I am poor - a college student with no money to spare, and my financial situation does not allow me to actively liberate Macs which I have to pay for [I'm still in search of a Mac that I may find lying about and the person just lets me take it home]. Anyone want to liberate the Quadra for me, hehehe? I don't have a 610 in my ranks of liberated 68K Macs.

Just a heads up. I have bid on the Q610. A whole whopping $5.00. At least this way it won't go in the trash.

I figured that I make a decent living, and aside from a few one dollar LC* series that I have bought, five buck plus shipping won't be that much.

And just so it is known, it will be added to the liberation count!
