I have my nice new Multiple Scan 720 monitor hooked up but can't convince any of my OS 8.1 Macs to drive it at more than 640x480 @ 67Hz. In the Monitors & Sound Panel the drop down list that usually says 'Recomended' and 'All' only offeres 'Recomended', which of course is 640x480 only.
Anyone know a backdoor or a way around the OS's monitor sensing?

On OS 8.1 it should work. Is there any software that you have to install like there is for the AppleVision displays?

If it an Apple display and has an ADB connector you won't get options unless the ADB connector is hooked up. That's how it is with my AppleVision 750, if the ADB cable is not hooked up, 640 x 480 is the Max I can do. If it doesn't have an ADB cable, perhaps there are software drivers for it.
Other than that, try tossing the preferences and zapping the PRAM. 8.x has some known bugs with preferences files. Try using the old Monitors control panel, it has more features and sometimes does the trick.
