Well my last new pc didn't materialise, I was buying from a friend & he reported that it suddenly would'nt boot up.I went to my local pc shop & have ordered a new one. I upgraded from a printer to a printer/scanner & was told this would be £20 extra. I recieved a phone call & was told that a mistake had been made & it should be £40 extra. I went in the next day & said that I had changed my mind, they(actually regional manager type guy) offered me to go with the origional deal that I had agreed to so I said yes. I will get; 2.4Ghtz 120MB hard dive 32MB graphics(is this good? who cares I don't use a pc for playing games) 512MB ram cd-rw dvd rom 15"(true screen size) flat panel monitor. Printer/scanner I might buy myself a DVD rw when funds permit.
I'll finally be able to offload my Powermac. I am keeping my 840av, it'll get the 4.23 gig drive & have another 1 or 2. It may also get to use the Compaq 140 monitor as well as the old Apple 14". The 840av will be hooked up to an scsi scanner & the cd-r drive, though unfortunatley not at the same time as they dont like being chained together. I would swap the 7600/132 for an external scsi tower. shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |

32mg will be fine if you are not playing games. For most games these days you would probably like to have 64+ for vram. But also the quality of other components on the card will enhance preformace as well. In OS X I noticed a HUGE speed increase when I upgraded my GeForce 2 Mx 32mg card to the Radeon 8500 pro mac edition (64mg). But this is because of Quartz extreme.-------------------- Christophillis- Portable Squadren Commander 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Total 68k Macs Liberated: 6.02x10^23 Or just 6 Number One, you have the helm. i hope you mean 120GB hard drive, because 120mb won't even hold WindowsXP. ________________________ IBM PS/2 Fanboy http://www.kevcave.tk = The Kevcave Manager, the llama-X project.. |

Seems like a fine system. If you don't need Windows, use RedHat 8. It's a wickedly fast system, stable and you can do practically anything you can on Windows. There are even programs to allow you to play Windows games and applications on Linux. (Both commercial & free) I would say that you won't be needing to upgrade this machine for at least 10 years. Unless you are playing all the latest games and are a framerateaholic, you won't notice anything bad.

I've been asked this question a fair bit, but I don't know the answer, my wife thinks it is Tiny, but a quick look at a leaflet says it is a Tiny. Can you tell I don't have a great passion for pc's? quote: If you don't need Windows, use RedHat 8. It's a wickedly fast system, stable and you can do practically anything you can on Windows. No It'll just be Gemulator, & perhaps Gem for the pc if I can get it running, perhaps mac classic emulation too. shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |
