Dumb question, i know, but i'm fixing up old Macs for people, and the other day I was working on a WGS 9150 for someone. Anyway i decided to test out the 8•24GC that was in there, so i plugged in a MultiScan 14", and the card came straight out of its slot! I'm now thinking of putting the GC in a Centris 650 that has a PPC upgrade, and anyway, i know this might be a dumb question, but how do you secure a NuBus card in its slot?

In my old MacWorld Mac secrets book from '94 it states- "Gently press the card until it's seated on it's connector. Wiggle it back and forth slightly, to see that it's connected firmly. If you can't get the board to fit inside the connector slot, first check weather you're dealing with a Nubus or a PDS board ( the connectors are different)." It also goes on to say "the Quadra is a rare Mac. It has both kinds of slots, NuBus and PDS." "When there is a PDS card installed, it blocks the NuBus slot."

So Nubus or PDS board? Hope this helps!

The 8•24GC is an Apple graphics card, so it is going to be NuBus.

I don't think Quadras are particularly rare, though.

That's weird...just about every Mac II and first-generation PowerMac has both Nubus slots and a PDS slot. What was the copywriter smoking when he wrote that?

Maybe we could ask David Pogue and/or Joseph Schorr they co-wrote it!

Doesn't David Pogue write for macworld? Or did he leave? He used to, at any rate. I think he has a website, something like www.poguespages.com

Are we going to do this civilly (?) or a mass-flame attack?

Hmm, mass flame attack! I believe David Pogue writes for the New York Times now.
