I think a really cool idea for a new type of Kiosk is the replicator. It is like those internet access points you see at the malls but so diferent in many ways. First, it doesn't have internet access. It's a replication machines where a precompiled list of freely available software for Windows, Macintosh and Linux canbe burned onto a CD or DVD disc. You start the menu selection and choose which software you want copies of, and it will tell you how many discs are required. (For example, some software suites might need an entire CD, other can be mixed with others) It will state a price based on a replication fee. You insert your money and it will burn the CD's inside, label them and give them to you in a plastic wrap or eject a hard CD case if you ordered one. It's the ultimate kiosk where even if you are on dialup or have restrictions, you can legally obtain software like Linux, Windows Updates, Mac OS, Macintosh Applications, Development Software and much much more. Some software developers can even have an option that you can buy thier products directly from the kiosk. (They would supply the CD's they would not be made on site) The kiosk would also offer CD/DVD destruction for roughly oh, 25 cents a disc. It would then pulverize the disc to make sure any info is no longer valid. Bands and content providers can rent space to advertise films or music groups, and for a small fee, you can buy some music or film directly from the Kiosk and other great things. There is no end! |

Kind of makes having that huge CompUSSR store kind of silly. Just have one half that size with a couple of those machines..-------------------- master of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ and figure-head of the Peoples' PDS Republic -------------------- |

I think it should not be limited to just thier stores, they need to make ones for other stores. In canada we don't have thier chain of stores. And some malls don't have computer stores, but some merchants would want to attract more consumers by having such a service just like many places offer ATM machines when no bank is nearby. They have to think profits and marketing and get this baby to all the malls!

I don't see any problem with it at all... in rural areas, it'd be possible for a maintenence guy to come and 'update' the software on it, put in more CDs/ DVDs for it to burn on and there would be less demand on small computer stores to carry much more than MS windows and MS office...Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |
