My apologies for that lack of insight, I didn't see those IP addresses listed there. Also, just a note any who had decided to use the server would also note that they would be responsible for what they took, there are 2 parts to every story. I have removed the info in part, and I do say sorry, It was late and I wasn't thinking that clearly, So I've more just created a snapshot of general activity like hits etc and browser type.So here is a detail of it, hosts, files etc. Report Covers: 7/14/2003 to 7/26/2003 (11 days) Number of Unique Hosts: 158 Number of External Referers: 70 Number of Requests: 4,343 Total Unsuccessful Requests: 17,314 Average Page Response Time: 7338ms Average requests/hour: 16.327 Average requests/day: 394.818 Most Popular Browsers (Top 11 Browser Types By Hits) Hits % Reqs Browser Type 17558 80.29% Unknown 1891 8.65% Netscape 5 898 4.11% Microsoft IE 5 747 3.42% Microsoft IE 6 547 2.50% Opera 7 97 0.44% Compatible (Netscape) - 76 0.35% Opera 6 45 0.21% Lynx 2 5 0.02% Netscape 4 2 0.01% Microsoft IE 4 2 0.01% Robot - (I would assume the unknown are Mac browsers like Safari etc.) Most Popular Operating Systems Hits % Reqs OS Type 17466 79.87% Macintosh 2910 13.31% Win32 1223 5.59% Unknown 269 1.23% Unix Most Common Bad Requests Hits Document 71 /scripts/..%5c../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 70 /scripts/..S5c../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 38 /scripts/root.exe 36 /c/winnt/system32/cmd.exe 36 /MSADC/root.exe 36 /d/winnt/system32/cmd.exe 36 /_mem_bin/..%5c../..%5c../..%5c../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 36 /msadc/..%5c../..%5c../..%5c/..Á../..Á../..Á../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 36 /_vti_bin/..%5c../..%5c../..%5c../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 35 /scripts/..À¯../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 35 /scripts/..À/../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 35 /scripts/..Áœ../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 35 /scripts/..Á../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 35 /scripts/..%2f../winnt/system32/cmd.exe 14 /announce.php 4 /CD_Archives/Disc_One/AUX 2 /.hash=e327884f88c4d905c1aa44c63c7cc9c58334d243 2 /scripts/..%5c..%5cwinnt/system32/cmd.exe 2 /CD_Archives/Disc_Four/Intel Daily Hits Report Hits % Reqs Resp Time Date 3 0.07% 75ms Monday, July 14 2 0.05% 0ms Tuesday, July 15 135 3.11% 37ms Wednesday, July 16 799 18.40% 10703ms Thursday, July 17 554 12.76% 7773ms Friday, July 18 459 10.57% 8939ms Saturday, July 19 441 10.15% 7883ms Sunday, July 20 492 11.33% 7032ms Monday, July 21 378 8.70% 8933ms Tuesday, July 22 392 9.03% 2934ms Wednesday, July 23 434 9.99% 4911ms Thursday, July 24 201 4.63% 1827ms Friday, July 25 53 1.22% 9577ms Saturday, July 26 HTTP Status Summary HTTP Status Code % Reqs Requests 200 OK 19.27% 4214 206 Partial Content 0.59% 129 302 Moved Temporarily 0.04% 8 304 Not Modified 0.96% 211 401 Unauthorized 0.04% 8 404 Not Found 2.77% 606 499 Send Interrupted 76.32% 16690 Not Implemented 0.01% 2 Edited by - The Balance Of Judgement on 26 Jul 2003 11:53:37 |

32 0.74% judgement.bc.hsia.telus.netThat's me. Telus somewhow allows us to have our own custom names, although it doesn't really do anything. Internally on my own computer it will call up my server but sadly it doesn't do it outside my network.

Hmm interesting, however..... if anyone (meaning software rights owners) wants to find out who is illegally downloading their software, or more to the point find out who is hosting the files for download, then all they need to do is read these forums!Sometimes I think that you are a little un-subtle BoJ (not just you, a few others as well so don't take it personally ). Remember it's the internet and eveyone can 'see' what you post - not just the members of this forum. Similarly the recent threads regarding the demise of 68kmla.com domain name were also sprayed accross these forums. Not as illegal as downloading software, but counterproductive to the cause all the same (the point being in that case that we wanted the domain name back, and the people who 'stole' it could see how much we wanted it, therefore they had more cause to hold onto the name and/or increase their demands for how much $$ it cost to get it back. That whole discussion *should* have been carried out in the War Room) Getting back to the point, while I also am grateful to many people who host files for download, I do think that a little subtlety is called for. I would bet my left arm that this forum has been visited at least once by legal representatives of Apple, plus many others. The fact that they apparently let us get away with it is a godsend. How long that will last is another question. If we blatantly discuss what is technically an illegal activity then we are asking for trouble. Flash! a.k.a The Voice of Reason PS. where you have listed the "Hits % Reqs Host" you have also listed a number of personal IP addresses (or at least the IP of the computer at the time) All I can say is "gee thanks a lot - if I give you my phone number can you post that as well?" - - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

I agree Flash. What does everyone else think about all those IPs that were posted? Danger or no Danger? Remember, some of us are on PeeCees, rather than hackerproof Macs. ML5 I'm assuming that was you who edited the IP's. If so, you will also need to edit the text to the right of the address coz that resolves back to the original IP (numerical) address.BoJ has lost a tonne of respect from me for this error in judgement (no pun intended). It's not just a question of whether your local computer is hackerproof or not, but whether or not you wanted your geographical location revealed to all and sundry. This is an invasion of other people's privacy. To answer your question ML5..... I would have to agree with myself - - - - - - - - - - - - - oops, my bad. it seems that BoJ did list the IP addresses with percent signs in them in the original post. However as i have pointed out, the text to the right of the IP resolves back to the numerical address so while the intention may have been to keep everyone anonymous BoJ forgot the backwards resolution. Still bad, but it get's 50% of my respect back. Don't forget that IP privacy was only half my point. The other point is that we should barely even be discussing software downloads, let alone discussing the most popular! Edited by - flash on 26 Jul 2003 08:37:22 |

well I half and half agree... most of those downloads were Rhapsody, an out of production, and out of date OS...then, there was a ROM file for a mac, (for those of us who can't get them our selves... or who might not have a mac... and then there was photoshop 3... pShop 3 is so old, I doubt that adobe cares about anything older than pShop 6 anymore... My aplogies to all.A lack of intelligence on my part. One more reason posting when under the influence of near sleep experience is a bad thing.

Ah, even If this were to be discovered by anyone who cared, I really doubt anyone would get in trouble, sure, BoJ might be told to take down his server, and that wouldn't been cool, but I don't think they would go after the users. This isn't the RIAA were dealing with, abandon-ware doesn't make people money. Maybe posting IPs wasn't the best idea from a security/privacy standpoint, interesting to see that it looks as though someone works at IBM (the address is gone now) what sort of facilities they have in north carolina?Classic, LC, LC II, LCIII, Q605, Mac IIsi, Mac IIci, Duo 230, Duo 250, Duo Dock II. |
