Because I need The POWA of 68k  I'm now installing and using Mac OS 8.1 on a 500MB hard drive image on basilisk II!booting from the 8.1 CD is PAINFULLY slow... but I know that it'll get better.. it's kind of interesting to think about how Basilisk II is currently configured to use 512 by 384 pixels of my screen... on my 1280 by 854 TiBook 15" screen  This will probably be where I run HyperCard and other older MacOS applications, as they run best on 68k just thought I'd let ya' know Official 68k videographer

My friend has it runing fullscreen at 1600x1200. Now THAT looks weird .

I've had Basilisk run at 1024 x 768, and it looks nice.500MB is too much! OS 8 with a few apps needed 250MB tops. See how nice Mac is? Back when I had my 660AV, I had a 1GB drive, and I never used more than 400MB even when doing senseless downloads or games.

yeah I know... except that BII won't run at weird resoultions like 1280 by 854 why 500MB? because I'm used to having overly large hard drives I guess :-\ Official 68k videographer

well I could 'resize' the screen, but it won't run natively at 1280 by 854 (tried) I also tried to get it to run at 600 by 600, and some other 'weird' resolutions Official 68k videographer

I've gotten BII to start at odd aspect ratios like 960x480 (2:1) and 1024x1280 (4:5) Of course it was the windows version... that may make a difference.Nick -------------------------

well I've gotten it to work in 1280 by 854, the native resolution of my TiBook screen and it's FANTABULOUS!!!!I LOVE IT! anyway... still nothing will compare to the feeling of using a real 68k like my 840av (when I had it  ) Official 68k videographer

because the IIsi has an MMU!

uhh... IIRC the earliest macs didn't... and Basilisk II doesn't!!!that's why you cant run A/UX on Basilisk II! Official 68k videographer

well PMMU is MMU with a P in front of it... so I'm assuming that it's basically the same thing paged memory management unit... for virtual memory see.. I know my way around this stuff Official 68k videographer

Nope, the 68LC040 is a 68040 without an MMU. That's why you have to have a full 040 to run A/UX. ________________________

I thought that the only difference between the 68040 and 68LC040 was that the LC version lacked the FPU.--Eric

I'm afraid that redrouteone is right, the first mac to ship with an MMU/PMMU is the LC or LC II I believe...Official 68k videographer
