The other day my boss asked me to go through his "warehouse" (garage) and throw out all the old computer stuff.

Well, among the other bits and bobs were an performa 575, a laserwriter select, a 6100/60. Also an ancient compaq presario 475 which is a complete ripoff of an all-in-one mac.

Yay! I'm a 68k owner once again!

Only tested the performa so far, and it seems to work fine, flat PRAM battery notwithstanding. Installed Master of Orion on it and have been happily slaughtering Silicoid and Bulrathi space-scum for the past couple of rainy days.

On a different note... and I hope I'm not sounding like a boring old fart here, but is the signal to noise ratio on these forums rapidly decreasing, or is it just my imagination?

Cheers!

Congrats on your liberating return to the joys of 68k ownership.

As a boring old fart myself, I would agree that our 68k SNR is a bit lower than in the past. I suspect it is just part of a cycle in which the members shift from discussing technical 68k stuff to more social chatting. Fortunately the non-Lounge parts of the forum seem to be retaining a fairly high level of signal.

Cheers,

'sadhu, great to hear about your reentrance into the wonderful world of 68ks! The 575 is a great machine, if set up properly. But yeah, I agree with you about how the signal to noise ratio is decreasing...there's not nearly as much stuff going on as there used to be! A lot of the old members don't hang around here as much as they used to.
