I have an external Lacie 4x scsi cd burner but I can't use it because the iMac doesn't do scsi. How much would one of these go for?. Scsi for usb burner - is that a fair trade?. Just a thought...

Yeah I think a straight fair trade would be fine, as long as the USB burner isn't like new or more costly. If it's like an old USB 4X then I say it's a fair trade.

USB burners would probably be 6x or faster and would probably cost more. usb 1.0 is kind of a slow interface so the burner should have buffer underun or your going to make a few coasters.

On macs USB 1 is limited to 4X (that's what they say at the mac store)

And several older models were 4X. You can always buy a cheap USB converter kit and convert any ATA drive to USB. I am not sure but I think there are also SCSI to Ethernet adapters as well as SCSI to USB, so you might be able to get something like that. Check eBay, it's great for odd stuff like that.

If your drive is a CD-RW, I would trade you a Sony USB Spressa 4X CD-R drive straight over for it.

I don't think it does the CD-RW thing. I know it doesn't like cd-rw discs.

Is it the 4x12x Teac? If it is, I have the same exact one and when I tried to use it, Toast v4.1.3 gave me an error that the drive wasn't ready. Have you run into this at all?

Thanks.
