This is 68k related coz I am upgrading a LC580 to a PM5200/75 Anyway.... I have a 5200 board that I picked up in the $5 bin at the local electronics shop. I swapped out the LC580 board for the 5200, but it doesn't boot up. It's a case of: no startup 'bong', "no Happy Mac", and therefore a blank screen. Just deadness. And it's not the PRAM battery either (just before anyone mentions it ) Do I need a ROM chip in the slot before this baby will boot? - - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

Yeah, there's a little ROM SIMM that looks almost like RAM that goes into the ROM slot. I didn't know that some models had ROM SIMMs til i got my 5200 board . Weird, but I guess it makes replacing the ROM quite a bit easier. --------------------------------------------- I want to be unique just like everybody else.

Yeah, you do. Apart from the 5260, no 5200 series machine had the ROM on the mobo. It was always on a ROM/L2 cache SIMM. Damn annoying, too. Damn, I was afraid that was the case. And I threw out a 6100 ROM recently coz it had been in the top drawer of the desk for years and I thought I'd never need one! - - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |
