I got a nice little IIsi at a garage sale for $3 yesterday (along with a free SE mobo and a free Apple DB15-to-DB15 monitor cable). The IIsi has 9 MB RAM, 200 MB HD. Overall, the little nipper is in great condition -- the former owner (creator of www.hyperjeff.net ) should get credit for the liberation. It seems that he bought a pallet of 20 older Macs, concentrated the working goodies into a smaller number of fully-functional, nicely-equipped machines and is sending them back out into the world to continue their computing lives.

But the real gem in this IIsi is a MacCon PDS board that combines a socketted 68882, right-angle NuBus adapter and ethernet with RJ-45. The markings on the board suggest that it should work in an SE/30 (if I only had an SE/30, I'd transplant it). I'll probably put the 68882 in the Outbound Notebook -- I only hope that that 68882 can handle being overclocked from 20 MHz to 25 MHz.

I don't think there's a difference between all the 68882s is there? Either way, it sounds good.

Went back to Hyperjeff's moving sale and rescued a IIcx that seemed destined for the dumpster. $2 for a nice little compact unit with ethernet card, 180 MB HD and 8 MB RAM. The HD is one of the old huge 5 & 1/4 inch form-factor HDs -- those things are such monsters.

I haven't booted the beastie yet, but knowing Jeff, its got a nice install and software.

I have one of those monster apple brand 5.25 HH 160mb scsi drives in my IIfx.

When I get my 4.5gb 50 pin drives in I will be doing a HD shuffle and hope to put a 1gb drive in there to replace it.

@Unknown_K

Don't shy away from 68 or 80 pin SCSI drives, the adapters can easily be found for cheap on ebay. I just picked one up for $6.99 which works great with a used 4.3Gb wide ultra SCSI drive. The only thing I'd watch out for when using these drives are, they are high rpm server drives = a lot of heat and potentially noise. They ARE fast though. :-)

Well 80 pin drives in a mac are a pain in the ass, and the converters (ones with active termination) cost a few bucks.

68 to 50 pin converters are cheap (I have one in a pc connecting my old 50 pin scsi cdr, cdrom, dat to the 68 pin wide connector on the motherboard)

The 4.55 gb 50 pin drives were only 12.50 each, I still have a 4gb 68 pin 7200 rpm drive here waiting for a nubus scsi card (if I ever find one cheap).
