Just for everyone's info, my Voodoo3 3000 16MB PCI video card works in Jaguar. I am running a Beige G3/266 (Rev. 3: $77D.45F2) with a Voodoo3 card that was flashed with the latest Mac ROM that is available: V3-166-5-29-2000.rom. The Displays button is System Preferences lists the following resolutions available: 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 832 x 624, 1024 x 768, 1152 x 870, 1280 x 1024, 1600 x 1200, all at millions of colors.
The display doesn't activate until OS X is nearly done loading, like I have read about the PCI Radeons.
Surprised that it was working, I decided to push it a little and try the Quartz Extreme
hack (PCI Extreme 2.1 - PCI Only setting), along with running a few tests with SpeedRun 1.2.
Before PCI Extreme 2.1
Graphics 60
Harddrive 72
Processor 60
RAM 144
Overall 84
After PCI Extreme 2.1
Graphics 63
Harddrive 111
Processor 69
RAM 126
Overall 93
Performance isn't spectacular, but the system is very usable for the text editing/web
browsing/occassional X11 programs, which is what I need it to do.
The Beige G3/266 Desktop I use has 512MB total (1 x 256MB PC100 SDRAM, 1 x 256MB PC133 SDRAM) with 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 16MB PCI, Matrox Millennium 1 2MB
PCI, and D-Link 530Tx+ PCI NIC filling the PCI slots. The hard drive I am using is a
Matrox 6Y080P0 80GB EIDE on the internal IDE0 bus and a Philips ReWritable-2x2x6
CD-RW (which Jaguar says is fully compatible, but have yet to try it out) drive on the
internal IDE1 bus.
The Matrox Millennium 1 2MB was flashed with the latest Mac ROM v.3.01. It works in Jaguar as well but is very finicky about wanting to work after switching back and forth between Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.2.6. When it does work the display doesn't activate until the OS is nearly done loading. I have yet to do any SpeedRun tests on just the Matrox card, but it definitely felt faster than the onboard ATI video.
X11 (full screen) crashes when I have both video cards running in Jaguar, but I think that might be due to the Windowmaker window manager I have set up.
