Like cinemafia, I too have always wanted an SE/30 ever since they came out but somehow I never managed to get my hands on one. Today, that finally changed. I scored a SE/30 (8/40) at a local garage sale complete with an external 160MB HD, external 800k floppy, Apple Keyboard & mouse, Stylewriter II printer, and a Radius "pivot" monitor complete with card installed in the SE/30. All for $10.00! And the best part of it all is, it works!

I hope to have pics of it up on the website very shortly.

I tell ya, it's been a compact Mac day. I've been fiddling with the new SE/30, browsing through the former owner's documents. Quite interesting. I also went and dug out my SE & Classic II - both of which are also garage sale finds. The Classic II quit working the same day I brought it home almost a year ago. I tore it apart and no amount of fiddling could get it going again. Today, I powered it up - still dead. I cracked it open and checked a few connections, powered it up again and there it was! I make double & tripple sure it was all a go before putting the case back together. Unlike the SE's, the Classic II has a perfect, non yellowed case and has the clearest, brightest screen I've seen. It's great to see it working again.

That's enough, I'm going to power them down and head off to bed.

Congrats on the working, maximized, inexpensive SE/30. They seem like such excellent little Maclettes. And that deal you got is very amazing -- that pivot monitor should have been more than $10 all by itself. Have fun with your new system.

Thanks, finding the SE/30 really made my day. I like that - "Maclettes" heh.

This is my first experience with Pivots, it is interesting. Great for word processing for sure. Seeing such a large, crisp B&W screen like that is interesting too. It's quite nice, and easy to look at. Reminds me of my old Atari ST B&W system.

I'm not sure yet if I'll keep the pivot system. While it's nice, I have no real use for it. Perhaps I'll put it up on ebay and see what happens. What I'm really after is an accelerator for my IIgs along with a SCSI controller for it. Perhaps even a network adapter for it. I'd love to get that little box on the net.

In the mean time, I'll look for some more RAM for the SE/30. With a NIC it should be quite easy getting it on the net "Debian enabled". heh

will the "pivot system" work on a iisi? I might need to sell my 7300 and the monitor that goes with it... and that means stealing the iisi's monitor for the 6500 :-\

if it'll work with the IISI and that'll work on A/UX...

where are you located brad?

it'dbe cool to have a pivot monitor

Cory: The Pivot system will probably work on the IIsi, but he would need to use the card that came with it, instead of the BIV.

Brad is apparently in Canada. I have a monochrome pivot here in Florida that I am willing to sell. There is an LC card for it which I have tested and a Nubus card, plus the all-important cable and software for the pivot-on-the-fly feature. I could test the Nubus card in an si if anyone is interested, but I don't think I can test under A/UX.
