That means this forum is hosted on a Microsoft platform, using Microsoft scripting on a Microsoft database. :-)-Brad ______________________________________ www.32bitwonder.org ...because it's possible |

Indeed, and that leaves only one question, why? ;-) Maybe this been brought up before, but it really gets annoying IMHO. It's a miracle there are still people coming to this forum, cause normally a crash where posts are gone and now these errors (i've encountered this message several times when visiting the last couple of days) are one big reason people won't come back. Isn't there anybody out there with a decent server on a decent line and *please* a non-ms-os? On the other hand, I can write down anything I want here, sooner or later this post will be gone anyway :-) ************************* http://mark.is-a-geek.org/ a Classic II, a LC475, a Quadra 800 and some other hardware :-) almost finished... http://geektechnique.org/ :-) ************************* |

Tom is right. This site is run on an MS server using MSDB because its free. The main reason no one would be able to host it on their own server is bandwidth. The amount this site uses is, i'm sure, huge. Basically the MSDB errors are the cause of all the MLA2 stuff and the reason for threads and threads of pointless arguements here in the Lounge, and that's really their only major implications. Sure, we may lose a few posts but would you rather lose the site permanently? Perhaps we should close this thread before flamewars and debates about how much better phpBB is ensue, not because I don't agree, but because i'm sick of reading about it. ________________________ Founder, IBM PS/2 Liberation Front Member, 68kMLA SETI@home Team http://www.kevcave.tk = The Kevcave Manager, the llama-X project. |

Well, I don't want a flamewar either, but isn't it rather ironic that in this case a Microsoft-solution(?) is the only *free* alternative? :-)But, another question, how much bandwith is this all taking? I'm getting my own server in about a week or 2 on a 10mbit university-line and, well, I'm gonna run my own things on there, but I could consider hosting the m68kla-stuff as well. For me there are no extra costs and the university allows everything non-commercial on there (so no t-shirts! ;-)) ************************* http://mark.is-a-geek.org/ a Classic II, a LC475, a Quadra 800 and some other hardware :-) almost finished... http://geektechnique.org/ :-) ************************* |

I'd gladly host it, afterall it was this forum which helped get my site going in the first place. Sadly I doubt my PowerMac 6100/60 behind my cablemodem would handle it. Why forum software has to be so heavy is beyond me. What ever happened to BBS message boards? <sigh> Those were the days when 2400 baud was fun! ______________________________________ www.32bitwonder.org ...because it's possible

/me likes his unlimited bandwidthCoxy stuck his neck out to get us these forums, and I think t should be him who decides if we change it. He seems to be the 'if it aint broke dont fix it type', buit that doesnt mean we should make the choice for him. I am all for making another set of forums in conjuncion with these ones, that will help enhance the lifestyle here. If people have good, vialbe, LONG TERM, solutions, please present them, and Coxy may like, or dislike them. ~Coxy isnt really our leader, but he certainly has a large vote in the forums and how they will work and where they will be going. ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? Well said.I was all for the MLA2 Initiative when it started up, but when I saw the negative effect it was having on this forum I decided maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all. ~Coxy is in charge of the upkeep and stuff so no matter what other people say its his call in the end... and yeah markie its very ironic that MSDB is our only free solution ________________________ Founder, IBM PS/2 Liberation Front Member, 68kMLA SETI@home Team http://www.kevcave.tk = The Kevcave Manager, the llama-X project. |

The problem with someone else hosting it would be if there was a falling out and someone decided to be vindictive. At least if Coxy has enough and decides to can everything it was his site in the first place. I suspect he risks involved in moving outweigh the disadvantages of staying here. Anyway I haven't noticed any problems in the last few days, although I don't spend quite as much time here as the rest of you -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

Yes. Lets just keep it as is right now. We may sometimes have borkouts due to the dodgy hosting, but it's still better than ending the MLA over a shitty Mordor$oft program."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
