Well, I have decided to go Macintosh 99% of the way. I'm so sick and tired of my PC and it's glaring faults, and I am eager to get back to using the OS I love and hold dear to my heart: Classic.

There are only a handfull of apps that I can't use, but those will be taken care of with a PC Card, I see a few around, so if lucky, I will snag one. Maybe two.

If I can't snag a PowerPC, I'm so desperate I will use my Quadra 840Av. That things rocks, and the money I would invest in it is well worth it.

Once my mac is up and running, I will be sending my PC to the server farm where my company hosts all of it's data, where it will spend it's life as a Linux server. At least Linux treats it good.

I have tonnes of software for the 68k, so really nothing is a problem. And my mail is already setup inside Basilisk II under Mac OS 7.6 so getting that over will be pie easy.

I will invest in one of those IDE to SCSI converters so I can use my large hard disk in iether of my macs.

As a final act of faith, I will buy a home theatre DVD Player. Then I can watch DVD on my 840 AV. Now that's a hack in itself. (Well, sort of, no-one really has much use these days for a 840AV with DVD)

I'm gonna be one happy camper soon.

Now go get yourself a nice AppleVision 1710AV so you can watch those DVDs the way they were meant to be played.

I split my time 50/50 between my iMac G4 and my old gateway with WinXP. Mainly because while the iMac is the family computer the Winbox is mine.

I don't really have that big of a problem with WinXP, i just install the security updates when I have to and (now to reveal the secret to keeping WinXP bearable) I never upgrade IE and i turned off the hideous blue and green and red theme. I had one for a while that made XP look like Windwos Longhorn but i turned that off too. Now it just looks like i have Win2k with some different features

But if i had the means and the willpower... I would put a full 040 in my Performa 578, upgrade to system 7.5.5 (from 7.5.3), install netscape 3 or 4, and set up mail, and never use another computer again... But i can't pull myself from Jaguar, I love it too much.

If you find a good deal on those IDE<>SCSI converters, please let me know. I'm in need for some larger disk space on my web server and would love to use one of my spare IDE hard disks laying around.

Here they are 125.00 Canadian.

Sadly I don't think it's worth it, you can get used drives on eBay for less. Like 10GB for 30 bucks, SCSI.

I have a IDE to SCSI sled that has uwscsi connection on it. When using a newer 7200 rpm drive the speed is very impressive. The maker is acard.

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/IDE/IDE_to_SCSI/ide_to_scsi_adapter.html

I think they run $80 US for one.

Its worth it if you want a 40+GB drive to run on a SCSI only system that cant use a PCI IDE ATA card.

My 2 pci macs each have an acard 66 PCI card with cdroms and hd's attached. If your using a nubus mac then the converter would work.

Its all about how much you want to spend.

Spectre runs fine on 8.1. I've played it many times. Not sure about SimEarth though. Never played it once.

I have 2 "25 BSM speakers sitting above the desk that have many many many watts of power that furnish me with the grandest startup sound than your puny little speakers can ever do. I can fill a auditorium with these.

So there. I win.

Size does not matter with speakers, it's wattage. Also, I've noticed some brands of speakers are huge but the actual speaker component is horribly small. Mine are mostly speaker component, so the size and weight of these suckers is quie large. These ones were previously used by an audiophile, so I know they are good stuff. They were used to play DVD's. Drool. I can't use them that much because the sound is so loud even my parents don't like it. It's like with speakers like that there is no "low" setting.

I know what you mean. On some speakers most of the case is just packaging to make you think that the driver is bigger.
