Today, I found a copy of Mac OS X server on eBay... it'll run on the 7300, because it's 10.1

it's unlimited client, it has the box, 5 CDs, manuals and it's COOL!!!!

I'm going to try to bid on it tomorrow morning, so I'm going to go to bed early and ask the PAF units if I can bid! I'll probably ask if I can go online intermittently tomorrow also, and if I get it!!! I'll probably take a day or two off from the MLA totally so's I can play with the new toy!

thanks! I'm going to bed (on time) tonight in just a few minutes... right now I'm writing a note to my parents to ask them to wake me up so I can show them the auction in the morning.

I hope I get this! not only will it run on the 7300, but if I get a G3 or G4 it'll run on there! (until 10.2 server becomes cheap for legal)

Erm Cory - I hate to be a kiljoy but OS X Server will not peform at all well on their for one reoason, you NEED MORE RAM. RAM is the key to the door in OS X. Nearly everyone that complains about fast Machines being slow has too little RAM, and in the case of G3s or 604s it can make a universe of difference. I know it's expensive, but I managed to scrape together 548MB on my 7300, as well as a 300MHz G3 card and the old Rage 128 out of my G3/400. Does a damn fine job of running 10.2 and is almost as fast as my iBook.

Still, it *will* run. The only thing i found is, using XpostFacto on a 7300, thatthe SCSI sometimes causes issues. I had to get a long SCSI ribbon and put my CD drive on the second SCSI bus to get 10.1 Server to boot.

hehehe...

yeah... I actually have parental permission to buy a newer computer for Mac OS X.2 server... that'll be a computer that can easily be upgraded more

I know now that the 6500 and 7300 have compatible memory... so If I DO get a compatible version of OSX... I'll up the 7300 to 96MB temporarily (32MB from 6500)
