see floppies are fine but a little small, but a ZIP drive is too new to fit well with a 68K, so what do you do? use SyQuests old 44MB and 200MB Drives are dirt cheap and companies will usually give away cartridges because they don't want to pay for recycling of the cartridge, and they are very uncommon but cool to hear them spin up

I have an 5.25" 88 MB SyQuest that worked for a while. But since then I've removed it from its external case and have been playing around with it in my 650 with no avail...

I also have a 3.5" 270 MB SyQuest, but, alas, I have no cartridge for it.

I do, however, use a SCSI Zip 100 with my Quadra 605 and Performa 631 if I want to do quick 'n' dirty file transfers to/from my iMac as their 10 baseT ethernet cards just plain don't work with the iMac...

I used to use Click-click disks, but then when my click-click drive gave me the silent click, i gave up on it. Now I have a CD burner and i haven't looked back since.

I have an old external syquest 44mb 5.25" cart setup with 10 carts. I purchased it for use on my apple IIgs (once I can find a cheap scsi addon card that is)

For backup purposes on newer machines its insane, but for retro systems its perfect.

I like the 3.5" 270 MB SyQuest. More capacity, more speed, and more reliability than Zip.

As Unknown_K said, old Syquests are useless on modern machines with gigabyte HDs and highspeed ethernet. But they are great for 68ks with smaller HDs and no ethernet. 270 MB cartridges used to be my primary means of off-site backup until I got the G4 with DVD-RAM. Now I use the SyQuest drive for loading systems and a base set of applications on to liberated machines.

SyQuest cartridges also let me keep a backup copy of very old applications that tend to crash newer Macs. This prevents me from doubleclicking a Macwrite file and having a PPC try to run Macwrite 4.5 from the Mac 128k.

/me faints

I never thought that they could have any value at all! I just got em (for free) because I needed SCSi stuff

ahwell...

whatever happened to that newer SyQuest stuff? like the silly red iMac thingy that could hold like 1 or 2 GB?

*The SparQ*, I belive… Oh, there was also a SyJet [1.5GB or something?]

But Ive got Two SyQuest EZFlyers, and an EZ Drive
[Flyer: 230mb, Drive: 135mb]
and Ive got about… 8 EZ Drive carts, and about 4 EZ Flyer carts…

^_^
SyQuest is [was] so cool… I mean the logo was cool… the Hardware was good [every file I had at one point resides on an EZ Drive cart…]

If I open my window all the bugs will get in… That's just one more reason to use a Mac!
